I got an email that my Dexchan sub will expire and now I have to use coins or something to continue to support?

"We've recently launched NamiComi Coins, the new way to support your favorite content creators on NamiComi. In order to continue supporting Dex-chan's Art Corner, you must convert your old Stripe subscriptions into Coin drops for them."

Is this real or a scam?
If it's real, why this coins stuff?

Hi there @Dekker
Short answer: yep, it's legit, not a scam

Longer answer:
NamiComi launched NamiComi Coins (I still think that NamiCoins was a better name tho) on Oct 14, 2025 (creators got a heads up back in September 27 when the Stripe connection started to fail). The emails about converting old Stripe subscriptions into "coin drops" are the official migration notices. Stripe-based recurring subs can no longer be relied on given recent payment disruptions, so the platform is moving recurring support onto the in-platform Coins system (you can still top up coins automatically in a monthly basis).

As for the second question (why coins?), coins are an in-site wallet (100 coins = 1 USD; 1...

My guess is so that legally people will not be paying directly for piracy, they'll be buying coins to support legitimate creators, and if a few just happen to be given to Mangadex then what can they do?

Stripe hadn't run my monthly donation throught NC in September for some reason, so something must have happened between mid-August and mid-September to change NC's ability to use the processor. Might be tied in to the push from some of the 'no adult content' crowd, given NC does host some of that content. Would be interested in anything official that the staff could offer.

Anyway, I ended up going through the MD direct donation to get that back up here a week ago or so, and for grins also have the lowest tier running through NC to see how that tracks (and gradually make up for the missed month).

I had trouble with stripe and my credit card payment on NC since August/ September too. only notification i got was an email that told me the subscription was running out because the payment could not be processed. on NC the subscription wasnt manageable and displayed a little note that there were connection issues with the stripe server. stripe must have terminated the service for NC but no one on support was giving me an usable answer so i gave up.
checked again a few days ago and saw there was this coin system implemented now.

i did not even get an e-mail that notified me about the new system.
don't know bout you but the only option for me to buy the coins was via paypal.

been supporting dex chans artcorner for over a year on the 20 $ level

i may have problems with a lot of things that happen(ed) on MD recently and strongly disagree with some of the operators decisions. but i still want to keep this place alive because i love it (right now more for what it was than for what it is now)

As for the second question (why coins?), coins are an in-site wallet (100 coins = 1 USD; 1 coin = 0.01 USD) that let users top up once and distribute support more flexibly, and they reduce dependency on a single external payments provider. The platform announced the revenue split as 90:10 (creator : platform) after processing fees.
From what I could understand from internal info, this migration is meant to keep creators funded while they move away from the disrupted Stripe recurring flow.

Lastly, it should be pretty obvious, but don’t click any suspicious links. Either use the links in the official email after verifying the sender or (safer) log in directly at the site by typing the URL.

PS: You can probably take a guess on who caused this change and you most likely wouldn't be too far off...

Hey there, is PayPal the only way to purchase coins? Because if it is I don't know if I will be able to continue supporting as I do not want to interact with PayPal. Is there some alternative that namicomi is not making apparent?

MD now has direct support through the main (comic) site, which is handled through Stripe.
