When are supposed to bring up the kid exactly? On day 1, first date?

Nah, but definitely before marriage talk. It's not like he learned about it only after getting married, he can still get away if he wants to. He hasn't even been to her house yet, that's still not the danger zone.

Is this some kind of weird self insert from the author or something? I really cannot fathom any explanation beyond desperate self justification for someone writing something so objectively incorrect with this much zeal. Regular bad writers usually have their trash characters actually be wrong before the protagonist gets their vindication.
"You lied about your job? That's...I guess I understand. You also have a kid? That's a lot of responsibility."
"OMG, YOU'RE SO AWFUL! HOW COULD YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT!? LITERALLY EVERYONE KNOWS YOU ARE WRONG!"

I guess most people missed the point
It's alright, it did what it was meant to do, tell a short story, and it did well

Ideally Sumi should want to start his relationship with Yukari from scratch (learning about Souta along the way) if he still feels a genuine attraction. A relationship founded on a lie is an excuse to allow more lies.

This story reminded me of Hajiotsu, whose main pair's relationship also began on a lie.
But that one had the good sense to uproot the lie and have a new one form in earnest.

I feel like I am missing something, why are everyone in the manga berating the guy for what he said before she left? All he literally did was bring up the topic for further discussion (something they definitely need to do), and when she assumes he is going to say its an issue, he replies thats not what he was going to say and mention that its a lot of responsibility etc. (clearly implying that they need to discuss it and not thoughtlessly ignore the topic, and likely also time for digesting the news). Then she suddenly says he is saying thoughtless stuff about her child? Wat? When the hell did he do that? He hadn't even gotten to raise the topic yet? And yet everyone is calling him an idiot and saying he said mean things?

That said, if he had gotten to raise the topic, who knows that he was intending to say. From the park scene, my guess is he wasn't going to say he is thrilled by the idea of suddenly getting a 4 year old child thrown at him and his life out-of-the-blue (noone would, or perhaps I should say that if that is someones initial reaction I would start wondering if I can truly trust them with such a position). The fact that she intentionally kept it hidden (alongside lying about her job) for so long is sure to raise even more concerns than merely making it a surprise throwing him off-balance that would require him some time to consider and internalize (which even if that had been all, would still be understandable for someone to be less than thrilled). The fact that he never outright rejected the news despite all that, should serve to show he was still valuing her enough to decide the effort might be worth it and needs further thought and info and that he's actually possibly open to still progress the relationship (which he later did). Hell, he didn't even freak out whatsoever (he just found out she were intentionally conning him!), and yet directly went to the route of trying to establish a baseline from which he can decide his future actions, brushing the trust-issues aside for the moment.

Overall, all characters reaction to what little he said, almost makes it feel like the translation might be lacking, or at least some nuance of it.

Yeeeaaaah, I’m siding with the guy on this one. Sure, a kid isn’t exactly something you bring up on the first date, but it’s definitely something that should be mentioned sooner rather than later. What he said wasn’t wrong, kids are a massive responsibility, and it’s a good thing that he took it seriously and didn’t just brush it off. He’s serious enough about her to consider marriage, but that also means becoming a father to a kid he only just found out existed. He doesn’t just have to commit himself to the woman, he has to commit to the kid too. At the very least he should be allowed a bit of time to recover from the reeling.

mmmm I don't know if it's because I'm a guy, but his reaction was totally understandable from my view... if she let him think 5-10 more minutes, maybe she would have gotten a better outcome

Dumb woman easily triggered, the guy hasn't even finished trying to discuss about the child before she stormed off.

I mean... its not like she lied about her hair color not being natural or something silly like that. But the fact she also lied about her job is even more stupid. Is she a 16 yr old?
She should had perform a dogeza and accept whatever he decides after telling the truth. He was just confused, but if were me i would also be really pissed with her for lying. What she did was truly awful.
But to think she actually thought he was wrong is the worst. He had every right to think the kid part was too much and unacceptable, but he didnt even went that far before she treated him like a villain.
Storming out right after only confirmed shes not very mature.

Imagine marrying a single mother, and provide for someone else's child KEKW. The girl is trolling!
The saddest part is that that kind of people exists out there ...

I wish I didn't read this BS

Oh wow so many negative reviews coming from the guys 😆
I guess lying about having a child and your job really struck a nerve eh?
I def had to agree about that matters tho.
But, not that I also take side on the woman but you know how she met him for the first time, it's not that she's intentionally looking for a partner, she's brought by her friend to a goukon and met him there, turned out he's interested in her so they had a date, I just think that she didn't expect that the guy would get serious with her in the first place, she was just having fun and vice versa. The fact that he suddenly proposed to her for just a couple of dates kinda threw her off a bit 🤔
That's why I think the guy was also a bit to blame here, please take notes: don't ever propose to women immediately when you just barely know each other; to avoid something like this in the future.
I mean this is really relatable, there are of course many cases like this happen everywhere.
And you don't have to like the characters to enjoy the story.

Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this one shot. Thanks 😉
