I really don't want to be a downer – I enjoyed the one-shot and was hoping that this would succeed – but recent developments have sort of confused me. The lack of development of the Kuchikusa seniors, the skipping of most of the scrimmage, and the decision to focus on rivals instead... I hope there's a good reason for all of that, and that these decisions will not end up killing this manga before it finds its footing.
All right, onto this actual chapter. I like how Mizuhara screams "dunk it!!" just to mess with Ioda and give Natsu an opportunity to shoot from the other side. The end of this chapter is also neat: Mizuhara and Natsu's relationship of mutual risk-taking out of trusting each other's abilities is contrasted with Mizuhara's old team. Mizuhara smugly says "that wasn't anything you couldn't handle, right?" instead of letting himself get yelled at, because the failures wouldn't be on him anymore. Natsu gets to be pushed – both because he no longer is a big fish in a small pond, and because any mess-ups are reflective of his ability now.
