He's an undead, they are the same people that send holy tanks to get rid of the undead in the first volume. He is an eyesore to them.

@sighoon - I doubt it's the church who sent the holy tanks. They're too alien for this world, the sort of weapon angels or gods would reserve for personal use.
I mean, you don't see anything like that guarding the church, do you?
