As an anxious person it hurts me watching Neeko go through all of this. What's the point? What's the payoff? This manga brings some of the most real shit I've seen and experienced about anxiety and depression, but some times it just... gives you chapters like the last 2.

Also, it's been a while since I last read this manga, but I think it's the first time I noticed: Neeko's hair isn't naturally white. I assume then that having white hair is a sign of stress, which would make sense.

I do think I like this manga more than last time I read it, but Imoko was horrible in this chapter (that doesn't mean that I hate the character, nor do I say she's guilty of her actions since she doesn't realize the damage she's doing).

She's not really having fun in the conventional "live in the moment" sense. She certainly isn't having fun without a care.

Even simply being there dredges up memories for her. She's constantly stuck in a mindset of the "good old days", so she's stuck comparing what she's doing now to what she did in the past.

I guess one could flippantly say that yeah, she's having fun. But it comes at a massive cost to her mental health because it's yet another anchor to her past.

@runrin By the way you talk about depressed people makes me cringe, and that is all I need to know. You're probably one of those people who think 'no' means 'yes'.

@broadsword80 my personal experience is that often, once you are doing something, it get easier, and sometimes you even forget the depression/anxiety, at least until you get pulled out of it.

in this case, we don't see how neeko ended up with everything she's wearing/holding, and my assumption is that during that time she may have been able to enjoy herself just a bit.

if you look at the previous chapter, neeko was able to start having fun at the pool with imoko before she got hurt. then she went right back to depression mode.

personally, i do not think these are setbacks as you suggest. every time neeko gets out of the house is a victory. she even was able to talk to her old friends on her own, and solve her problem. seems like progress to me.

i think of these neeko field trips as exposure therapy. last time imoko was with her the entire time, this time she had to fend for herself a bit. maybe soon she will be able to get out on her own.

she's going to be embarrassed no matter what. accepting that she has medical reasons why things have been so hard for her should help her realize that she doesn't have to be embarrassed about her situation.

Imoko is a great sister. She may not always end up doing the best thing but she's constantly trying to help Neeko in her own way.
