As a merchant that slavestore owner aint bad, taking advantage of the visitors personality to sell off one or more of the unwanted merchandise that's a fair bit worse than average..
Stuff like the mines were rather common irl too btw, nothing like spicing up the story with a grain of truth to get the visitor to swallow hook, line and sinker.

True, at least in this case it wasn't his idea to go to the slave store, and the seller was clever enough to appeal to his compassion to secure the deal, but this is the same protagonist who in chapter 7 said that it was okay for his companion to buy a slave to find love.
