I'm not saying that espionage and diplomacy did not exist at all in ancient times, I'm saying that ancient empires expanded primarily through rapid military might, and cared little for any weaker powers diplomatically
I'm talking about just assuming they are weaker than you without knowing anything about them or what's ahead, which is just plain idiotic, as displayed by the factions here in the manga.

Even most conquests by real world empires were years after first contact with the natives.

Additionally, a simplistic account of, "They have walled cities and horses and grapes" is not really intelligence gathering.
knowing where the enemy cities or fortification are, how many garrisoned there, if the cities can host your invading army ... is better than knowing nothing and assuming the enemy must be weaker than you and charging blind ahead, as shown by the factions here.

As for Zhang Qian- he was sent to the Darouzhi to convince them to attack the Xiongnu from the west, and didn't even manage that. He was captured and detained for over a decade, ended up marrying and begetting a son from a Xiongnu woman, before finally 'escaping' and making his way to northern Bactria, finding the Darouzhi all that time later... and they refused to go to war
that's another example of an empire using diplomacy to play weaker factions against each others, gathering information first, again, not just "mobilize and crush", or "mobilize and march into your death", like shown by the factions in this manga.

Agreed that against peers (other Empires) it wouldn't work; I thought it pretty clear initially that I was speaking about Empires against weaker nations, as with the Romans against Europe, or the Persians against West Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean; obviously given
even that the stronger nation still had to be sure the enemy is weaker, not just charging blind ahead.

And Rome or Persia all shared history with the people there before doing the conquering, so they still had an idea of how strong the enemies were.
Lastly, the British didn't conquer India, since that implies Crown rule, might, and intent; the East India Company initially traded for it, piece by piece, and would have continued to do so if not for the extreme instability caused by Aurangzeb's policies in life that were very anti-non-Muslim, and the long war (28 years!) he waged during the last years of his life into his death followed by his sons fighting wars of succession to try and keep it all rather than divide it amongst themselves; ....
yeah, the British knew the enemy and took advantage of the situation using little military might thus making the conquest less costly, how does that disprove my point?

It wasn't for a hundred years after that that the British Crown usurped the rule from the Company, because of the Indian Rebellion against their practices.
which is example of taking advantage of the situation, not just through military might. it would have been costly if they tried to do it against the EIC at their peak.

Oh? how many isekai'd countries are there? :meguupog:
There's a medieval fantasy one with chocobos, a Star Wars space magic one, an ancient Greece one, a Heisei Japanese one, and a World War 2 Axis Powers one.

The upcoming arc will introduce the ancient Greek one soon enough.
