im not even through with the chapter and i already wanna complain in the comments - it makes no sense that japan should learn about the captives from the empire instead of already being aware from their own surveillance or from their allies. thats the main difference between post wwii and modern era - not the weapons strength but the communication and surveillance technology. even if they can't launch satellites or lay huge underwater phone cables, they should easily have a radio relay network all across allied territories and at least some basic infrastructure in neutral (now turned "enemy") territory to allow scouting drones and similar.
hell, even the natives have magic phones and as we now see video broadcasts, yet japan is completely behind on this because the author is dumb.
