@Naraji I think this one is better than gate. Gate just sort of turned into a fantasy harem situation where this is waaaaay more realistic of what would actually happen. The gate’s main protagonist had an absurd amount of freedom given he is just a soldier. What army and government would just let one rando boi running around in a strange new fantasy world gathering up waifus?

@ruth1ess I agree. I really like this one better as well. Gate is cool for the harem, new world idea, but this is a great spin on what happens when you poke a bear with a stick. I like the constant fighting and the more true military aspect.

It's decent. Not as much "character" as gate, but more credible.

Not digging the hypocrisy between showing the villains as xenophobic, but having the heroes be a "super japanese-master race".

Id't be nice if magic was somewhat effective as well. Imagine an isekai with a modern army in a D&D-like setting. The magical people would have access to teleportation, invisibility, mind control, polymorph, etc, providing a real challenge to a modern army.

It's a cool series, I might not know a lot about politics or gun lore
I enjoy reading this community inputs
but I liked this more than gate. To me, GATE it's more about isekai waifus and I dont feel like Japan has a real treat over there at the moment, heck they even receive help from other nations supplying ammo and parts. On the other hand in this series they don't have back up and are on their own, by the looks of it they're not the only super power over there.

@Belkin Gate is about more than isekai waifus. It's also a soapbox for the authors insane political views! It wouldn't be Gate without the excruciatingly long segments devoted to McEvil Media guy and his anti-military bias!

This series:

Several pages introducing and characterizing the opposition.

Then anonymous Japanese grunts gun them down in five seconds.

This is colonialism porn. Modern nation desperate for the most minor justification for war vs far less advanced society.

I'm wondering, what's the situation with satellites and wifi alike, or have they most probably already launched more satellites?

Japan establishes friendly relations with the closest country in it's proximity after the archipelago is isekai'd. That country happens to be on a peninsula shared between it and an impoverished country no one feels like invading. No one in the region has industrialized. That friendly country is invaded by another with a large military, by the aid of another country which also has a large military. Meanwhile Japan invests in the allied countries infrastructure with railroads and seaports so they can give Japan more resources and comes to the friendly countries aid without a casus belli, essentially, the friendly penninsular nation gave up it's sovereignty to control it's diplomatic, economic, and military fate.

This is literally the Japanese imperialization of Korea but in another world.

This is hardcore Japanese SDF and imperialist propaganda.

tl;dr...Gate Part 2 Electric Boogaloo

@ghede That or you put your idiot political opinion into everything instead of actually reading it. Hate to break it to you but that is how bad feudal societies could get. By our standards the wars fought hundreds of years ago were barbaric and would have involved warcrimes.

This just feels like one of those wish fulfilment/ pover fantasy stories without any actual content whatsoever. Just that in this one there is no mc jerking of to how op he his but an entire nation.

so imperialist, as much as I love it, I wish it was the US, so it would be in character, and even more overwhelming

While conceptually interesting, the manga itself is pretty shit. Don’t expect there to be any characters. Like at all. If there is one, he is an enemy fantasylander and dies quickly or is an ally fantasylander and serves to say, “Wow, Japan is so impressive.” The japanese themselves have even less characters than the fantasylanders, as bizarre as that sounds. Don’t expect any plot here either. There is no morally grey. Kingdom x is the bad guy oppressing y, so Japan helps y and in exchange gets the food to support themselves. Don’t expect real diplomacy — and certainly don’t expect the opposing fabtasylanders to be any form of competent, for even a minute. They don’t get a single win.

If you like watching a Japan military dominance wankfest, go read gate. It’s significantly better in all regards.
