I unironically believe that men and women are to blame for killing that trope. Feminism wanted women to be more than damsels in distress, and men self-inserting into wanting to be the prince felt an illusion that they’re entitled to women they save... but you wouldn’t marry a fireman just because he pulled you out of a burning building, right?

The idea that there’s a perfect prince out there to rescue someone is sadly unrealistic...

sure, but it wouldn't hurt to have a decent one from time to times.
one that isn't perfect but also not trash, the kind of royal that prioritize his duty to the country and honor his vow to serve, rule and protect the citizen's.
