Anyway, it's a very callous way for the mangaka to indicate that "yes this is a story about them being friends, not lovers or potential partners, just friends". It's relieving to me, at least.

I imagine he found shorter pudgier her more appealing + easier to draw. Rhitos got visually more simplistic too, I feel like it just went more down the easier to draw route than pure goon
