@_thestranger_ I understand what you're saying, and you're kinda right... except that I don't see it that way.

I too believe that the story focuses on the idea of family, but saying "they are not in a romantic relationship" is just... a maybe?
It never specified "she's like a sister to me", but it also didn't say "we're dating", for that's not the idea. The story ends showing the "love" these 2 girls have for each other, and that's the important part. Whether is romantic or family love that's up to the public (even if there are hints of a romantic relationship).
So it's ok if you believe they aren't going out, but be certain that the story ends in "love", without any "explicit" extra tags to it.

Thanks for seeing things from my perspective. On the opposite end, I totally understand and it's okay in people believing that they romantically like each other a the end. I just often see when two girls get along really well in a story, people tend to expect or think it's yuri the majority of the time (especially when the author doesn't clearly state it's not or is). I think the constant theme of "family" is what makes me believe that ultimately the FMC became a "sister"/family member that joined her friend's family at the end (even though it's not out right said).

But yeah nothing against Yuri, it just at lot times people either see or expect yuri when it's not really there. I don't think the yuri is there for this story because it's main focus is "family" even though it's understandable people seeing it differently (FMC saying and being surprise her friend looks pretty [she took here friend as a ugly betty], friend kissing FMC head [although earlier it was establish that the friend kisses her siblings heads just like she did with the FMC], and them hold hands at the end and being embarrass of the mom's joke [just two female friends comfortable in holding hands and not liking that they were teased by the mom for that])

Why did I cry ? This was really good. I would like to read some more stories like it.
Recommendations welcome!
Thanks fore the chapter!

@Sweet_Seats People have done worse for less. And there isn't always a readily available excuse. Abuse is abuse and it comes in different forms. It doesn't always have a "valid" reason. Its not about validity. Some people are just messed up. Not necessarily for phycological reasons because there could be moral ones. Or lack of morals rather
The book A Boy Called It for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcTsTRWZVjQ

Its a pretty famous book.
In this autobiography David was singled out. While his siblings enjoyed the love and affection of the family he was forced to endure abuse and was ostracized by his relatives. He wasn't the youngest or some sort of problem child. Yet he was isolated. Within and out side the family.

I really love this. And I really want to kick those jerks. I get how she feels. She got 1st place in midterms but the parents were openly praising their son who got into a college after "3" tries... That's a jerk move right there. I hope she can get into a good university after one try, SHOVE IT IN THEIR FACES, and move out of that toxic family.

A bit too fictional but good nontheless.. i mean there's no way there's a family out there who would treat their own child like this without any valid reason.
Thanks for the spot of comedy after a heavy read lol. I'm happy that you haven't had to witness this stuff IRL, unless you have and have just rationalized it all as the victim's fault, in which case my condolences.

Saying you wanna make a family with someone by saying your name next to theirs like that looked pretty gay to me

As much as I liked this, she goes to school with incredibly obvious injuries locslisedcto her face, clear signs of an attack....and nothing happens to her family? No police report, the school didn’t look into it? I feel like they all just dodged any form of karma, even just a mild reprisal. Her parents neglect her and don’t feed her the same food, her brother straight up attacks her while they stand by, and no one got a visit from the police or whatever Japan’s CPS is? Unless I’m reading between the lines wrong and the siblings moving wasnt entirely their choice

@_thestranger_ I get where your coming from but I think there’s 3 things in particular that show there’s romantic interest, firstly on page 17 she gets embarrassed and/or nervous when she notices how pretty kyougoku is I mean that’s not how you react towards someone who’s purely friend or family to you. Secondly page 18 when the teacher asks if their friends they hesitate and glance at each other before embarrassingly saying yes which indicates their internal way thinking of each other as more then that (admittingly this is the weakest of the 3). thirdly page 37 when kyougoku talks about them being a family together there’s absolutely no mention of her siblings or mother she only talks about the two of them which suggests she’s not talking about her becoming apart of her family but rather them becoming their own family (which shouldn’t need to be explained). just my two cents it’s written in a way that it can realistically be interpreted both ways.

This was really enjoyable, I can see why it won awards. It seems the author has more plans for these characters? He has them (or characters with similar looks) on his twitter. One loses an eye.

@Benjansss I can see how you can say there was a lead up to the romance, but it still feels left field. Actually I find it annoying that there was romance at all regardless of how well it was telegraphed. Two bros can help each other without romance, it's bromance. Two girls can help each other without trying to get into each other's pants, it's sisterhood. Why do we need to add romance into everything? Is it so unbelievable that we'd help each other or even care unless our tingly bits get involved? Personally I find true friendship stories to be more touching, but maybe that's just me.

@ARealCoolGuy a lot of that kind of came out of no where I was just describing what I saw I never took a stance and whether it should have had it or not, I for one generally enjoy a seeing little romance In most things (there’s definitely completely shoe horned in and plain awful romance in many things) as I’ve never been in love myself

Man, that felt great. More alive than most manga even. Kinda gave me Horimiya vibes along the way. Not sure if I would like to see more, feels pretty complete and stretching it more would probably be to a disservice to the feel of the story, especially since issues one of them is facing are rather heavy, so shouldn't be shown too much probably.

@Benjansss The only part of my comment addressing you was "I can see how you can say there was a lead up to the romance, but it still feels left field.", I should have probably formatted my post better to avoid confusion as I was originally going to write more about how the romance was unearned and not signaled to the reader, but went more on more about my opinion on romances in non-romantic work in general.

My bad.
