cough
Sorry, but isn't this directly something your team claimed was entirely off-limits?
To expand on this a bit; if MD were to run out of money and it was a life-or-death situation, we'd think of ways to monetise temporarily (and it's really not that hard to do with our traffic levels, even a static banner on the homepage would pay the site costs back tenfold), but we're just opposed to both advertisements and also to making money off of content that isn't ours in the first place.

So it's less of a "how can we" and more of a "we don't want to". Appreciate your worrying for us, but be at ease

We're back to the last resource again, after the trial years ago I hoped they wouldn't need to actually put it on practice. At least make them funny as April Fools' ones, you know many are asking for some specific ones:

If they were something like this, @Manko-sensei would definitely click it. :smugnako:

It is funny how many people expect a site that gives them free content then throws a fit because the site actually tries to cover its expenses without charging them.

It is not like the mangasex people are getting paid for what has to a lot of time and effort to do.

I’m confused. Since when is 16:9 considered “ultra-wide”?
Sorry... as far as i can tell, most of people laptop (and PC) that i know of often have 1366x768 for screen resolutions.
Only a few people has 1920×1080.
And even for (web) developers, most of websites (and even apps) are the maximum (and ideal) for screen width for desktop is 1366px.
That is why you get these "big spaces" around where most of mortals don't:

But wait, isn't 1366x768 have a 16:9 ratio?
Screen ratio doesn't really matter in website development. Only pixels does.

None of which is considered "ultra-wide", nor is it even remotely relevant to the problem I highlighted.

And even for (web) developers, most of websites (and even apps) are the maximum (and ideal) for screen width for desktop is 1366px.
I'm a fullstack software developer who also does web development when the customer asks for it.

There is no such thing as an "ideal" screen width on the web. Web developers are given multiple designs, usually 2-3, and use something called media queries to implement each design based on various metrics, usually screen width as defined in the design. It's how web pages are made to adapt to tiny phone screens as well as large desktop screens without the need to manage multiple versions of the same page.

Mangadex uses those very same media queries and can afford to change ad placement based on screen width, which they don't, and which is what I'm complaining about.

That is why you get these "big spaces" around where most of mortals don't:
Fun fact, there's almost 2.6 times as many mortals using 1920×1080 (19.13%) than those using 1366x768 (7.36%) according to statcounter.

And according to Steam, more than half of their users are on 1920×1080 (53.23%), over 20 times more than those using 1366x768 (2.46%).

None of that is relevant though, as I'll explain shortly.

Except they don't care about pixels at all. They care about how large an object will appear on screen. In other words, they care about the physical size of your screen, which is likely 27 inches based on my calculations.

It's been that way since about 2010-2015, when Apple popularized HighDPI screens.

...and now it's gone? Has the data been collected? Is there some A/B testing going on?

Edit: nevermind, just seems to be displaying inconsistently now (so...A/B test?). Color me curious about the design process decisions with all the different UI permutations we've seen as of late which are totally not the reason for the MangaPlus bot breaking down every other day :thonk:
