Can we all chill out? I don't like the gatekeeping, but we're getting a translation regardless of whether it's from obseletezero or ecchi no doujinshi. I'm reading this manga for the feel good vibes and the arguments in the comments are ruining that vibe.
As much as I would want to agree, obselete literally used their credits page to call other translators out for... checks notes ...supporting their parents during extremely difficult times. Its almost like there are people in this world that don't have such a privilege as free healthcare from work.

I was kind of confused reading the credits page, because I couldn't tell if they were referencing their own situation and the way they structured the text made it harder to read. That being said, criticizing someone for doing what they can to support their family is an incredibly scummy thing to do.

well its funny that people got offended with the westerner(one of south east asia name for woke people) thing and probably non facebook user gen z or alpha. i think hes just calling out people straight reuploading it and and make it seem they translated it and slap a patreon/ko-fi link and the sick thing some tl do add it on their credit page which is doubtful. based on my analysis hes generalizing non honorable translators or scangroups in general

All this drama and no one is talking about how Anzu wears a face mask to cover up the fact she has braces. I think this might be the first time I've seen a manga/Japanese artist acknowledge braces in any sort of medium (correct me if I'm wrong) and she is looking hella adorable with them.

Unless there are more, and there probably are, he's calling out Kirei Cake. If it were a small note in a credits page it probably wouldn't bother people as much, but it was or has been inserted in between panels on random pages. It's also been what feels like a decade since those notes starting appearing. It may or may not have become a meme, and there are various rumors and morbid jokes floating around. Kirei did a bunch of series that I've enjoyed and his work is decent enough so I don't really care.

I come from a certain community that is consistently unhappy with localization efforts made by both mainstream companies and indie groups that feel that they have an obligation to "fix" foreign works, not necessarily because cultural meanings aren't easily translatable but because the original content is not palatable to modern western audiences, to put it politely. I still think its stupid for obsolete to say he wants to gatekeep "westerners" from his translation, at least when interacting with an English speaking audience when he doesn't know whether or not they're English natives or ESL from literally anywhere that's not SEA.

As far as the jabs at reups go, it's a weird take. On the face of it, I agree that it is calling out groups who reupload to places, slapping on their own watermarks and claiming credit for the translation. Because he's posted this credits page on a this particular chapter, it feels like he's claiming Ecchi no Doujinshi did that, which as far as I know is not the case.

His preaching about "PROPERLY credit(ing) the original (author)s" is also a little unhinged within the context of Mangadex, as EnD pointed out earlier. You shouldn't have to say who the author of a particular work is every single chapter, because chapters belong to a series which is attributed to the author. It's a skill digital literacy issue if readers think scanlators are the original author. This is really only an issue on places like Twitter and Facebook.

This whole upload and credit page rant makes sense if obsolete felt that someone else picking up the series again on Mangadex meant less followers on his social media group, and was very upset about that. Next to his flaunting of being author approved and lecture on properly crediting the authors, this is at least a little funny.

Anyways 3/10 credit page, obsolete can #DOBETTER. Should have thrown in an animated fox and some gooner jokes in. And I need to find better ways to kill time.

Braces are very nice, I like that they were a more subtle detail and that's probably why less people are talking about them. Braces have appeared before in Japanese media, although they're not terribly common. I haven't seen it, but apparently one of the main characters in Words Bubble Up like Soda Pop has braces and wears a mask for the same reason as Anzu does, or might. I saw a comment claiming that Japan finds crooked teeth cute, and that's why we don't see braces as often, and I'm not going to put in any more research into the matter so that might as well be true.

Ok, I think this is actually a fair criticism

1. unless your in the EU a few $ from Kofi literally doesn’t matter. For reference the new scanlator taking over does multiple very popular series and earns 150$ in patron income. (if the translator is in a non 1st world country this doesn’t apply because conversation rates)

2. Wikipedia got backlash for implying they would shutdown soon if nobody donated even though they have funding for decades, this isn’t to say translators are rich but;

3. If the situation was really dire enough the responsible thing to do is mention it once, slow down or quit scanlation and either take more hours/shifts or go job hunting. It sucks and nobody should have to work 2 jobs for (insert dire situtation) but that’s how capitalism is which is beyond anyones fixing.

Im not against people asking for donations but using excuses constantly like those is a bit much…

This is the comment I came here for. Not this stupid drama shit.
Anzu using the mask to cover the fact that she wears braces, instead of just being another landmine girl, is incredibly cute. And she looks super adorable with the mask off.
