Agreed. I'm guessing a fae changling or something of that ilk. There's some old school horror scifi that has aliens abduct, replace, erase memory and live amongst us that have the programming to "fit in, be normal and do not get noticed." when they're pushed for personality they tend to be authoritarian. They could fit in too.

The primis is interesting, but seems inherently contradictory. In chapter 1, it is explained that each book leads to a self-contained universe, that the authors only got info on, not ones that they have created themselves. They are "records of the other-worlds", which implies that they are unaffected by the author. However, this second chapter undermines the premise, using phrases such as "once the story is written" and use terms relating to common archetypes. This implies that the "other-worlds" are created when the author writes the story, as opposed to how it was first described. This seems like a quite significant plot hole.
