This thread is frankly quite upsetting to read through. I fully understand that you guys liked our work and are disappointed in us dropping the manga, but I'd just like to remind everyone that this is what we strive for.
As scanlators, our goal is always to get the series noticed by licensors in hope of it being officially distributed in our language. We are sad to not get to work on this anymore, but I'm incredibly happy to see all the love and attention it is getting, and that Morishita-sensei will be getting a piece of the cake for the English market.
Yes, Viz's region locking is annoying, but this is more a problem of licensing, and is entirely in Shueisha's court as they require regional licensing deals. They could offer global licenses but clearly don't, Viz has no incentive at restricting their own customer-base, thats a ridiculous idea. I see several mentions of MangaPlus here, but the key difference is that MangaPlus is directly ran by Shueisha, the license owners.
At the end of the day, piracy is and always has been a problem in service. MangaDex exists because of it, and in an ideal world, it wouldn't need to, yet here we are. I understand the "fuck the region lock" sentiment, but being mad that it got a simulpub discredits a lot of the work we've put into the last year on Tsumiki.
