Since numerical mana values isnt a thing here, this is probably as close as they can get to establishing a consistent 'unit' of magic for measuring purposes.

It's very similar concept to how we test durability of small arms (low-lvl/power magic) and heavy weapons/artillery irl (medoum/advanced magic), the fire rate you can achieve before your barrel cracks is basically your mana capacity.

Have to love it when there is no clear number for mana the mc has.
Manga authors using a game like system for magic and skills is such an over used crutch. What makes it worse that especially when it comes to magic they establish it and barely use it afterwards.
