Time wise, the only information that got sent was about the Armored Lizards and giving that credit to eldest brother, Murcia (wind magician). All that to keep his 2 fire magician brothers in check and not to have his village taken from him.

He can't give dragon slaying credit to Murcia after sealing a pact with Panamera. Van hasn't gotten a guarantee of his ennoblement until she came back with the King. Right after that, Yelenetta invaded.

Here it shows him wavering and considering visiting Van's territory to see him under the pretext of his son getting a title for committing a great deed.
In the novel he remains completely dismissive and says it's all complete fabrications until Van arrives and saves his life by rescuing the fortress which was about to fall at the second battle against Yelenetta

NGL, I would question the competency of any commander that ordered their troops to ignore the aerial units and the explosive ordinance they were dropping.

Sure if you have nothing that can counter them, by all means try to avoid them, screen your units with smoke or steam, or at the very least force them to drop where their own troops would be caught in the collateral damage. But to just fight as if they didn't exist just seems utterly insane.

I truely hate the tropes and clichés where just because a character is a garbage perent doesn't mean they are equally incompetent in every other aspect of their life.
