It's interesting how in China there a whole strong and significant field of traditional medicine going on parallel to the modern medicine. From my foreigner point of view and based on what you see on the international news, much if not most of it is alternative medicine, but I reckon it actually also overlaps with modern medicine to some degree. Maybe in the West chiropractic represents the best example of the sort of gray area between modern and alternative medicine. At least in my part of the world, most of the rest of the alternative (or historical) medicine, while still existing in various forms, doesn't really enjoy the kind of trust and fame the Chinese traditional medicine enjoys in China. The majority of population would consider someone really believing in it to be a bit of a loony.
