Can’t say I understand some points of the story, because this one is a bit different from Kodama’s previous works. But Kirito is supposed to contrast Hayate’s calm demeanor, technically he is a wild boy from the woods, and his attitude is as similar as of a little kid.
Even if his actions are questionable to the standard laws in society, it’s a bit curious how he is guided sometimes by instinct, yet he is kind enough to Tsukina. He is just a boy who misses dearly his grandfather, and it shows.
I am aware of Tsukina’s lack of skills, but since this is a coming-of-age story there must be a turning point in which she will have her development for good. Her natural reaction of awkwardness and lack of communication makes sense from someone who has been struggling with her identity in her life.
