Reading gives me conflicted feelings because no way a blip in a diplomatic letter like that is just cause to wage war.

But then I look at current real world situations and countries wage war for less offense. Crazy how it works.
about the same cause for current Thailand - Cambodia war.

This mistake seems too stupid for a county.
What if this is the trap?
The ancient elf was able to change their race to female only a long time ago.
Such a change hints at the possibility of gene modification.
Gene modification = bio weapon, super soldier, cloning,....
I think the orc is too hasty.

The Franco-Prussian war started, because Bismarck managed to manipulate a letter so brilliantly, both sides thought they had been insulted and the french declared war over it.
compared to that, this one is actually demanding a redraw of the border.

Gustav also expected a year back and forth correspondence with Elfind.
He probably plan on doing that, to bait Elfind into make a slip, or declare war.
He didn’t expect this is the level of game from the Elfind queen.

Not just in fantasy stuff either. Cavalry charges were successfully used during WW2. That's many decades after the introduction of Gatling guns.
and even now in the war in Ukraine, with horses and motorbikes. small spread out mobile squads are less costly to lose to FPV drones than expensive tanks . and seem like having mobility is always better than nothing.

Maybe I'm just pessimistic but I somehow have a feeling this is actually intentional by Elfind to make Orcsen attack them. Sure, they're kinda insulated but it feels like these kinda people always have hidden support in other countries who wants to feel their supposed power/richness, and they've prepped some traps and allegiances (maybe with camelot or something) to trap Orcsen when they go to war. And they'll also probably politically try to twist the fact and say Orcsen had no justification to go to war against them.

Aaargh, the suspense is too much

It depends on the setting and its nature. In the Warhammer wargame there are repeating guns, including gat ratling guns and cavalry keeps going strong. Mostly because heavy cavalry (knights) have better regular armor than that and the guns tend to be pretty inaccurate and/or explode on the gunners' faces. Often both with the rat-men's.
well was thinking warhammer fantasy when wrote the part of Magic Armor aka Grail Knights......but yeah that was the universe I was thinking

It's been too recent from the dark elf campaign for them to normally bait a war. Between spent resources and consolidating the new territory, the timeframe is too short.

It works for expanding empires because they can keep damage away from their homelands, but a defensive war? The orcs just need to break the elfind offensive with Gatling guns and integrated multi-racial tactics to open up Elfind's defensive vulnerability.

And with how much the neighboring countries hate the elves, there's little a PR spin will do them. Painting the orcs as a bully will just advertise how well the orcs get along with other races.
