I'm getting a high feel that meeting with the other person with the gender desiese is going to add some insane development(my guess is by showing akira that most ppl with the disease don't enjoy living with it) but at the same time this seems like such a obvious progression that I'm scared the author is just pulling one on the readers and nothing is going to actually happen

My impression of Shion is that everything she says and does is deliberate, and so she would have to have a really deep-seated hatred of Akira to let it slip.
