I was lowkey more invested in the (ex) girlfriend in that one. She runs into trouble that actually feels like it has stakes and undergoes emotional development whereas the MC's adventure turns boring and generic immediately.

I like those where the ex isn't this straight up evil person, but someone who can change. Doesn't mean I think they deserve forgiveness, but it's usually a better story if they try.

That one is honestly pretty sad because the herorine isn't doing anything wrong and the MC has just completely written her off and no one else knew her well enough to know something's wrong so there's no one to save her.
