Bro it ain’t that deep. Honestly, if I was in the same exact scenario yes I’d be embarassed as hell when I found out, but also like she hasn’t done anything cruel or evil. If anything she was spoon feeding him answers and he’s made way more progress than he would alone. Like I’m not gonna be mad at the girl who used her secret identity to, lemme check my notes, ease my anxieties while attempting to date her.
Yeah I mean. It sure is not exactly correct to keep this a secret but men are simple creatures when it comes to girls honestly... She is anyhow your type and comes to you first? Yes please... So if girl feeds me answer about how to get her, I wouldn't mind in the slightest.

She also didn't recognise him at first, so it was not purely intentional, and calling it manipulating, idk. Feels a bit like overstatement. She is literally giving herself to him on a golden plate because she likes him but it's true she should come clean asap...

I think she's so afraid of losing him that she has internalized Hiragi-san's character and is acting in an automatic way, without realizing what she's doing and how that can hurt him. After all, she's as clueless as he is when it comes to matters of love.
I hope these two lovebirds can enjoy their lovey-dovey time together for a long time. :glee::hearts::hearts::hearts:
Thank you for the translation! :hearts:

Of course, you're right that she hasn't used it nefariously, but that's because we have that knowledge. If you were in his position, with none of the behind the scenes knowledge, you certain you wouldn't feel any anxiety about the reveal? When she says, "I've been the person you've been confiding all your deepest thoughts about me to this entire time, also, your best friend has known for a while and kept it a secret as well," you wouldn't have a mountain of concerns and questions? You wouldn't doubt that there was any scheming going on? No part of you would be anxious that you were mere entertainment? Again, we know that's not the case, but he doesn't.

To be clear, I'm not saying she's evil for this or anything. Like Kurama above said, she's not to smart about this, either. But we do have to remember that these are teenagers, and I've seen teenagers have bigger blowups over less anxiety.

Honestly, probably not, ESPECIALLY if my best friend is involved. Again, probably be super embarassed, maybe even need to take a day to sort things out, but honestly my logic would be “Wow she wanted to go out with me that badly? And my buddy knew so it’s not like she was gonna pull one over on me. Wait so whenever I talked about how cute she was she must have been burning up! Isn’t that like super adorable?”

It's not really about the logic of it within the manga at this point. They're dumb teens so ofc it will work out.

It's the fact the author feels it necessary to keep dragging this plot point on and presenting it as 'adorable'. The 'its not that deep' argument is one only made by literary-immature people who focus too much on the presented story and not what is the author trying to communicate. Every decision in a story was made by the author for some reason. Some of these reasons are more intricate than others, but they all equally betray the author's character.

My point is that this plot point continuing on the way it has betrays the author as having a really immature view on trust in relationships. These things are all about trust. Her not coming clean is her not trusting him to be able to deal with it and you can't build a healthy relationship without mutual trust.

The natural counter argument is that they are dumb teenagers, so of course they make mistakes, which is something I was fully behind back when it seemed like the author would provide consequences for what she has been doing. However as it stands now, I don't think they will.

It is the responsibility of an author to teach the readers the right lessons and properly articulate it when a character does something that is unhealthy. But they're not doing it, they're playing it on like a funny gag. I really don't think this author sees any issue with any of this. And if they do and there will be serious consequences, then I think this will just have been weakly written at this point, because it would come out of nowhere now, since the author refuses to be remotely judgemental about the whole situation thus far.

Now there is a way I could sort of see it, but it'd take too much writing skill which the author doesn't have given how they handled some of the previous story beats so far - there is a read of this story in that everything we see so far is 'how she sees it' in rose-tinted glasses. How she is so absorbed in her delusions that she doesn't understand how she is heading straight towards a catastrophe. If once the reveal happens, the MC completely collapses and shuts down, this whole setup could be treated as a form of unreliable narration. It'd be behind this, but I just don't have that sort of faith in this author at this point.

this right here is why your arguement doesn’t hold up

The ONLY THING the author is responsible for is telling the story they want to tell. Teaching a lesson is NOT the responsibility of the author, dictating what is and is not morally correct behavior is NOT the responsibility of the author, and punishing or rewarding a character for making socially or morally correct actions is NOT the responsibility of the author.

The responsibility of the author is the same as any artist, to create. Everything else is the responsibility of the viewer.

You do realize we are talking about a comic book for children here, right? Like do you want me to take your argument to the logical extreme? Should we discuss Mein Kampf? :))) Your argument would hold weight if this was a seinen, but it simply is not and if you think literature for children is not heavily moderated, ho boi do I have a wake-up call for you. Framing the subjects in a way that would let the audiences grow is like one of the main functions of editors of these mangaka.

I would say exactly bc its a shonen instead a seinen that it doesnt need to be logical and have such consequences

If it was at least a kodomo ok some "moral of the story" would be needed and for a seinen the realistic consequences. But a shonen? Not saying shonen can't have them, dont get me wrong, but they dont NEED them. We are talking about the demography where the biggest hit (Dragon Ball) have the editor (Torishima) saying that he decided to make it a work without substance. And then he got promoted to editor-in-chief giving Jump one of its best phases

You realize Shounen manga is also allowed have crazy amounts of fan service as well right? You’re conflating intended demographics and moral standards across two entirely different cultures. You’re over here clutching your pearls at some of the mildest shit and comparing it to a book written by Hitler. Also no, the role of the editor is to make the manga SELL. They make suggestions and tweaks to improve quality and marketability. Some publishes have different standards because they are appealing to different sub-demographics, yet generally no, the purpose of a Shounen manga is NOT to teach kids lessons or other Nick JR bullshit, It’s manga that appeal to young men. That’s it. Anything else is you grafting your own morals onto an industry and an artist.

I hate what this has become. She's completely manipulating him at this point. Like full stop abusing her special situation to steer the relationship in whatever direction she wants. It's so darn wrong and the author just won't stop trying to make I come across cute.

I kept thinking there would eventually be a fallout regarding this, but the way the author keeps framing if, I no longer think this will be the case. The author legitimately finds no issues with this entire situation. Is this some sort of weird wish fulfillment? Where they feel like male partners are such numbskulls that literally any decision they make must be cross-checked with the partner without ever putting the partner in an equally vulnerable position? In honestly now bordering on calling this author sexist. It's putting the girl in such an enormous emotional pedestal.

There's a lot of talk these days about how we, as a society, are trying to move towards equal relationships, where one side does not control the other. There is pushback right now about western romance literature with the "dominating narcissistic billionaire" archetype or the "damsel in destress" heroine. Japan is so, so, so behind on this cultural development, though it's funny to see it in reverse. Usually they fall into the "dominating male, damsel female" gender dynamic. But this "dense males and manipulating control freaks with no risks females" is just as bad. Sorry, just can't not rant about this at this point.

Also, poor translator, that message hit me in the feels.
At the end of the day it's just manga. Considering this would literally never happen irl, it's really not that serious.
