Shine has 2 acceptable past tense forms: shone and shined.

You generally use the first when the verb is intransitive, as is the case here, and the second when there's an object (eg: he shined the headlights), though using "shined" in the first case is also fine.

I grew up using shone a lot so I use it by default.
