"My childhood friend is so cute. Oh, but I can't have him think that or he'll go off and leave me or worse, he'll become a womanizer. I know, I'll just tell him to hide his face with his bangs and make him think that he's not that attractive. My childhood friend is pretty athletic and cool. Oh, but I can't have him think that, or he'll probably try out for extracurricular activities and get popular. I know, I'll have him avoid joining any clubs or activities without my say so, and keep him restricted.I really am curious as to what's going through her heard the entire time she was abusing her boyfriend. Like what kind of reasoning justifies that treatment?
My childhood friend is pretty smart, he probably could get the top score of his grades. Oh, but I can't let that happen, or he could get into a different school then me, and it'll be harder to keep track of him. I know, I'll insult his intelligence and have him think that he's nothing without me, that way he won't pursue anything else.

I imagine that's how her thought process interpreted things throughout their childhoods and school days, at least until the break up. Worse yet, I've seen people who actually thought like this, so it's pretty crazy and for the people involved/targeted, quite scary.
