Tohno isn’t his own character with emotions and thoughts. To these people he’s just the self insert character and if they act in a way “they wouldn’t, because I, the chad would definitely not have,” they complain, you see it all the time.
Surely guys that have been hurt by women aren’t also self inserting.

Guys that self insert for that reason wouldn’t be mad at him for feeling that way though, surely? My post isn’t “all self-inserters do it for this reason,” it’s just a comment about why some people do this, it’s because they CAN’T relate to your POV. Otherwise they’d understand.

My point was everyone is self inserting, it’s a pointless criticism. People saying the manga had forgotten what it was about were also self inserting just in the opposite direction. They’re not treating Tohno like his own person, he has to be as hurt as they are.

This is a great point.

As someone in the, "this feels forced" camp, my main complaint doesn't really stem from a self-inserting, "I wouldn't do that" perspective. My problem is that I don't believe the author has convincingly set the stage for this development to occur  now.

I'm not against having some drama tied to his trauma, but I wish the author had done a better job of setting this up.

Then again, I just may not be the target audience anymore, as I've gotten pretty tired of the "traumatized loner gets saved by quirky, pretty girl" genre.

Damn, must be a good chapter seeing 100+ comments...

Instead its because some people lack empathy, wow.

We the audience know she's the real deal but HE doesn't know that. His experience tells him to distrust. One of the girls, or perhaps multiple girls and it all added up... it must've messed with him really badly if he's still distrustful like this. Perhaps one of them did the long game like Izumi "seems" like she's doing.

If he lets his guard down again and Izumi betrays him, I know and he knows he'll NEVER recover again. He'll NEVER trust women again. Every time, every woman has been using him just to get closer to his brother. Why would things be different now?

His trauma is so bad that if he ever overhears Izumi talking with the girls who want to ask about his brother... his trust for her is going down the drain even if it's not her fault. Hinagi might be self-serving (for now), but she honestly saved them.

Tohno, stop being a dick and apologize to your wife for making her sad.
We can still see your comment from other people replying.

Sorry for bringing it up again, but like the other commenter said who got shit on too, you gotta man TF up.

Compulsory drama
Whaaatttt??? A romance manga includes not only the ups but also the downs because otherwise it would make it absolutely boring and unrealistic?????? And it allows the characters to grow???? Say it ain't so!

He really is that scared and honestly I can't blame him. Every girl he encountered up until Houjou just wants to use him. I feel bad for him
Yeah, we literally saw in this chapter that 3 of them wanted to use Tohno to get to his brother. That's even worse.
