I'm all for him staying true to himself, but I also don't think this needs to devolve into "he starts crossdressing when going to school from now on". Otherwise, that would cheapen the fact that he wants to look like a guy to the girl he loves if he just goes back on it.

Except that's a desire born from wanting to fit in with what is considered normal. A healthy relationship shouldn't require concessions to the partners' identities.

@chaichan1 Going to school isn't a relationship. In the first place, most Japanese schools require a uniform and often control accessories, piercings, etc. If you can't deal with that... Well, what can you do? When you go to work, the same thing often happens again. Even their cafe enforces a dress code (the crossdressing). That's life. It's a totally different thing what you do on your free time, which is also technically the time when he should be involved in the relationship with Mayu. But not during school hours. The school's for studying.

@Kaarme I agree that its really hard to be an open crossdresser at school and most workplaces, particularly in Japan, but it certainly isn't impossible. There are remote schooling options to complete classes online, as well as remote work options for many jobs. Plenty of remote workers work in their pajamas, outside of sometimes needing to put on a good looking top for video conferences. He could also work at a location that is supportive of crossdressing, such as the crossdressing cafe. My point being that if Yuuki doesn't feel comfortable constantly wearing male clothing, to the point where its impacting his ability to focus in school, then he has options to avoid it. They aren't perfect options, but they may be worth exploring if he's unhappy.

@mirewitch Yeah, but it's pretty hard to see how that wouldn't cause him even more stress. In the end he really wanted to study together with Mayu. I reckon he also simply wanted to study like almost all youths do, to belong to that majority group in that activity and not feel like his choices in life are limited because of missing it. In life you often need to sacrifice something to gain something else you want. Technically a school uniform isn't even supposed to be an element of control and suppression of individuality. It's supposed to be an equaliser. Rich and poor kids all look the same, wearing the same uniform. In the West rich kids would have expensive brand name clothes and bags, those from less wealthy families would need to stick to bulk or handed down items. Being from the West, I'm obviously not a fan of the "nail that sticks out must be hammered down" ideology (like those bitches telling Yuuki to dye his hair), but I also don't understand why anyone should let personal ideology or a desperate need for self-expression to overcome their own benefit in contexts where it's irrelevant. You go to school to study, to learn things you need for college/university and for life in general, for your own benefit. If that's not your first priority, you are automatically a problem student (with compulsory education, there obviously will be plenty of such problem students).

Anyway, I feel like this is beside the point. Yuuki is mentally healthy and has no problems wearing the male uniform, by the looks of it. He hasn't even got a gender identity disorder. His problem is his fear of not fitting in and his sensitivity to anything that might touch that uncertainty. It would be good if he could just talk about this stuff with someone. This should, really, be a minor problem for him. At least as long as nobody finds out his and Kei's part-time job...

People seem to love forgetting that he never ever identified as a woman, and he doesn't want anyone to believe he is one either.
He just likes wearing cute clothes and wants to look cute himself.
He always wanted to be seen as a man, regardless of his clothing.

He's a healthy person that doesn't want to follow those stupid norms we have.

@Kaarme School really isn't just a place to study. You can do that anywhere. School is both a place to study and a place to develop socially in, and you really need to be able to express yourself properly without constraints if you want to develop as well as possible. Yes, Yuuki is mentally healthy and doesn't have gender identity issues, but also is very clearly uncomfortable at peoples' casually placed expectations of what manhood should look like or how he should be.

@chaichan1 You can do that anywhere? I have never seen anyone look down on education so much in my life. You can't give quality education to millions of children, regardless of their financial background, just "anywhere".

And yes, you also gain social skills by going to school. All kinds of social skills, including how the whole society works.

Yuuki can feel uncomfortable about it at school. After school he doesn't need to. There are about a million things you can feel uncomfortable about at school or work. That's life. As long as it's not something criminal like sexual or racial harassment (which is why the bitches were wrong). High school will be over before he knows it anyway. If he continues to the uni, there won't be any uniforms anymore. He could even crossdress occasionally if not full-time. Depending on the university, he would likely even find crossdressing buddies.
