It's quite interesting how this took longer than Asuka confessing, seeing how this was the established pair of the series. There was and still is no Asuka+Kei couple, yet we still had the confession there a while ago. Mayu+Yuuki, however, has existed almost from the beginning but took this long to become official. I wonder if confessing actually became easier for Asuka due to knowing it wouldn't work. It's quite a popular trope people don't confess because they fear the friendship will also end if it fails. Asuka probably could guess the old childhood friends relationship with Kei wouldn't end because of the confession.

550 pages and you finally did it
FINALLY.
My poor soul,
My pure maiden(boy) soul,
It can't handle this amazingness.
I need a tissue.

Are we forgetting the actual number of pages of content here? Even condensed to an average of 10 pages per chapter, which is on the smaller side of what you tend to see for actual chapter lengths of things, we're only at chapter 55 here, give or take with allowances for the page count inflating a bit due to several extras/specials that were longer than normal. This is downright fast for a Japanese romcom manga, especially if things are supposed to actually continue from here on as well for some time and this isn't just the end game scenario swooping in on us.

Obviously if we change the page count for a proper chapter to match other stuff like the things that are in the 12-20 page per release area, the actual chapter estimation count shrinks. Since this is the page at a time sort of thing I can't tell you which exactly is the right count to view this series in mind with, but the point remains no matter which one we look at.

@Glomoro Yeah, but they have actually been a couple for all intents and purposes for a while already, so the confession, as important as it was, is just kind of a formality at this point and could have happened a long time ago. Still, I was talking more about relative stuff, that is, Asuka confessing first despite more or less knowing it wouldn't work, whereas the result of Mayu's confession should be a foregone conclusion. Now, I do realise their situations are completely different, so there's no particular sense in comparing them, but I found it interesting nonetheless; the one receiving little to no signals confesses first, the one already being in a romantic relations confesses last.

"I love you, not for your personality, but for your appearance and smile."

Not the words I personally would like to hear.
