This does explain certain details about the family and how it has affected Chie and Chia. I reckon the reason why Chie and Chia have had the communication malfunction between them is also largely due to the mother's influence. The mother simply is incapable of normal human communication. Chia espaced this by spending so much time with Kento, from early on, while Chie probably just isolated herself, to the point of barely ever having conversations with her own sister.
