In "Fear Alone", the brutal [redacted] that they're performing on the scp 231-7 is just reading a book to her, to read her to sleep. After the deaths of the previous scp 231 females, the foundation realized there was a better way to contain and prevent the death of 231-7. Instead of brutalizing, torturing 231-7 everyday, the Foundation instead made all non-briefed researchers, security, staff, etc, believe that she was being subjected to the most brutal, evil of acts. In the original scp article on the wiki, look at how the description of scp 231-7's containment and the procedure montauk is worded and redacted, to imply the absolute worst. This in turn sows dread and fear among the scp staff who are unaware of the truth of procedure montauk. Why? Because the Foundation learned there was no need to commit vile, disgusting acts to contain the evil entity within 231-7's womb. Instead they only had to make the entity believe they were committing such acts in its name. The fear, the dread, the thoughts and imagination among the staff of what procedure montauk is, and what 231-7 is being put through, is enough to satiate the evil entity.
