I have read Hajimete no Gal. For several years now since it refuses to end. The only thing in common this chapter from this manga has with the chapter you mentioned in the TN is that the couple went to karaoke.
I went back and reread the chapter after all these years to make sure there were no background characters I missed that might be the characters here but there was nothing. There's no context to be found there.
If you're trying to imply that the connection is that the male MC struck out with the female MC at a karaoke place then you might as well link every manga that has ever used that trope.
In addition, I wasn't mad at a simple translator's note. I simply shared an observation in as constructive a way as possible. If you took that as my being upset well, that makes no difference to me. I offered my opinion for free after all.
So, let me explain my thoughts:
The reflection centers on the idea of utilizing the same setting: The Karaoke, in the initial chapters of both mangas. As this choice serves as a way to develop the relationship between the characters, the connection between these scenes lies in how the author approaches the same situation (going to Karaoke with the girlfriend), with both protagonists being "officially" dating in each case.
What's particularly interesting is how the dynamics shift between the two stories: In
Hajimete no Gal, the approach is indirect and somewhat imaginary. The kiss, a classic marker of action, is intentionally suppressed and rejected. In contrast, in
PEEP, the same background scene is revisited, but with a significant change. Here, the protagonist takes action where there was previously hesitation, resolving the moment rather than allowing it to linger or fade away. And also, who invites, as in
HnG it’s the female deuteragonist, while here, it’s the male protagonist.
It's as if, by using the same backdrop years later, the author is demonstrating a shift in mentality and thematic focus. This shift in mindset plays a role in influencing the direction and pacing of the story itself.
And about the
Hajimete no Boner, well, that was funny, that's all lol.
