Maybe you're mistaking it with another pandemic? The "Black Death" refers to a specific pandemic occurrence of the bubonic plague which did happen between 1346 and 1353, sweeping across Europe. That's the most basic part of the premise, would be p bad if they got that wrong xD

Listen, I'm not saying there wasn't a plague epidemic in the 1500s, there obviously was. In fact there were tons of plague epidemics all across Europe in the 14th-18th century.

What I'm saying is that the author is referring to a specific pandemic instance called the Black Death and that one happened in Europe 1346-1353. Doesn't say it was the worst or the only plague epidemic there, but it's the one referenced in the manga and that's a fact.

So you saying that the Black Death didn't happen until 1500 is simply untrue.

I dont know very much about Old German orthography from 1355, so I cant say if the words are correct on page 15, but today it would be "Mit Schuhen betreten verboten!" Would be awesome though, if the author did try to include German language from 700 years ago. ^^ Im following a grammar/orthography youtube channel for the German language, that often uses old German text. Just saying if I would be send back in that time, I would understand Jack sh*t.

Also at least today "Rachel" isnt a German name, its clearly English. Its weird that the author has chosen this name, because everything else is written in 100% German like "Schönwald" etc. Well, maybe her mother was from England. ^^

The extra history in the page is interesting - I was under the impression bathing fell out of favor in the Early Modern period because of dysentery & cholera outbreaks as cities became more crowded and water supplies became contaminated (John Blackthorne makes a reference to this in Shogun).

I used to love stories like this, but ever since I read a research paper written about the use of isekai tropes in medieval Europe I can't help but see it for what it is: Racism. Japanese people seem to see Europeans as "noble savages" that Japanese people need to "show the light of civilization." It's not just Europeans too, they used to do this to the Chinese and Koreans back when the Japanese were more aggressive and imperialistic. Now it's the same idea, just softened and made into cute stories.

I'm still going to read it because it seems cute and fun, but this will forever remain in the back of my mind.

It's fine. There are many lenses from which to view stories from. So long as you are cognizant of what they can represent, it's fine to enjoy these stories.
Frankly I found the "whole-ass country of Japan was isekaid" to be way more overtly problematic because that manga tried to whitewash the fucking IJA.

Becker = Baker
Mueller = Miller
Smith = Blacksmith, goldsmith etc
Carpenter, Thatcher, Cooper etc

That's strange given how much post-feudal Japan(the Meiji restoration etc) owes to technology and cultural influences imported from Europe.
