I have an office laptop older than Covid19, and I've been struggling to find any good games outside the well known ones

Pretty please, recommend me some good stuff, which can run on a dumb toaster too

Any favourite genres or any quality to reduce the scope? Because otherwise I'm going to post late 80s and 90s recommendations.
I like sandbox games, and practicaly every sub-genre of them, except platformers

Platformers usually either bore me, or just make me ragequit

And about quality... I genuinly don't know what to say about that

Alright, I am not a well-cultured gamer but i sometime play 2D games when I am bored:
  • Garden Story: an rpg 2D game, the pixel art style is really cool so it is really cool (and only 100 Mo for 10 or 16 gameplay back then)
  • The Survivalist: another "2D" survival game, you are stranded in an island and you need survive there, adopt some monkey to help you escape the island.
I also recommend TUNIC but i dunno if your bread toaster can handle (still worth playing though).

I actually have tried Elona+CGX before

I wouldn't say I don't like it, but I haven't got the "feel" for it yet, using your words

It's still a bit confusing for me
I understand. I stopped playing for a month, deleted my save and now I'm think wth I was supposed to do.

I also have something comparable of a toaster. I'd really looking at games that use PSX graphics, top down or pixel art as that reduces the load on you laptop compared to 3D open worlds or games with many objects for example.
Some recommendations I can provide from stuff I've played are -

Portal - Puzzle game also cheap as hell

Portal 2 - self explanatory - multiplayer too

You could try the Half Life series - my friend says they are good

Most Valve games would work absolutely fine at 60 FPS.

Celeste but it's a platformer so you might not like it as much - amazing sprite work though and when you die you restart the room not the entire level which means mistakes are never to grand.

Ultrakill - robot in hell go boom on monsters and machines - it is optimised to hell (no pun intended) - nice retro graphics - good community and complex gameplay if you want to really maximise the bloodshed - movement shooter

Roguelites like Hades and Slay the Spire - these roguelites not only provide you with virtually unlimited gameplay but also dont require a lot of specs especially Slay the Spire as it is a deckbuilder.

Stardew Valley - Farming sim - very nice, chill and cute - you'll be surprised how much time you can spend on developing your farm and the stories with other villagers - all multiplayer

You can always delve into older games - try some Metal Gear Solid, the PS2 God Of Wars, Yakuza for PS2, you ofcourse have GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas.

As for Sandbox - You would ofcouse know of Minecraft, Terraria, etc but you may not have heard Factorio and Subnautica - subnautica I especially recommend - the sea exploration of that game is next level.

If you want tower defense - You have Bloons TD 5 or 6 - I recommend 6 but 5 might run a bit better - idk

For an MMORPG suggestion - Try Guild Wars 2 - it is free - no forced payments required - and if you do want access to premium featues - it is a 1 time purchase for as low as $7.49 or £6.49 on sale for the -

Expansion Starter Pack - Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ and Path of Fire™ dlc. It runs at 60 for me on decent graphics - you should be able to run it at 30 minimum at decent graphics - who knows you may reach 60 FPS as well.

Total Annihilation

Older Total War titles should run fine, especially Rome 1, Medieval 2 and Shogun 2.

FEAR
1 should run smoothly, 2 & 3 probably too, but I don't know how potato toaster we are talking.

Singularity is also a great older FPS.

If you sail the seas and fly the flag, any pokemon game should run smoothly with desmume

Remember Me
a fun title from that studio that now just makes Life is strange games.

Hydrophobia is also a relatively unknown game that should run on your toaster and still looks good

Battle for Middle-Earth 1 and 2
or just grab Age of the Ring mod for free.

Most older Paradox titles should run in too, but these will become your new life.
I'd recommend Victoria 2 with Pop demands mod personally.

Good time to see what the actual world of warcraft is like and install Warcraft 2 and 3 and play them through.
Starcraft 1 will also run perfectly on any machine made this side of the millennium.

Dawn of War series was recently on sale and you can still grab the whole series cheap on GOG.

Black and White 1 and 2, if you decide to be a god.

Mass Effect trilogy should run too, but I am not sure about the Legendary Edition version, it might be more taxing.
Dragon Age 1 runs on most toasters too.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 isn't that taxing and is a great rpg. Essentially, if you are looking jealously at people playing Baldur's Gate 3, just play that. It's probably better.

Noita doesn't take that much either, but at other times it can be quite taxing. I think most lag issues is just the game engine cooking itself alive, though.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2 run on any toaster and maybe even the remastered versions too. LoK: Blood Omen 1 and 2 most definitely will run on any machine, but getting them to work without crashing will be the true challenge. LoK: Defiance will also run on any machine.

Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 and Jedi Academy are also great games with lots of mod support and run on any toaster.

Someone recommended Max Payne 3, but 1 and 2 are a lot better. Speaking of Remedy, Alan Wake 1 should work fine too.

Mount & Blade Warband will also work just fine

Prince of Persia Sands of Time trilogy is decently ported to PC, though you will have some struggle getting the controllers work with it. PoP 2008 works fine too and so does PoP Forgotten Sands.

Touhou Luna Nights
should work fine too. Likewise, most mainline Touhou games should work fine too.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines should run smoothly too, though like any old games, there might be some issues.

Speaking of being a monster Alien vs Predator 2 is a masterpiece, the game not the movie, would recommend.

I suppose that is enough from me.

One last one Cthulhu Saves the World

I have an Ideapad 300 from 2016 I took from the office. Someone mentioned Octopath Travelers 2, can confirm it works. The first game works as well. The loading between scenes has some delay but I'm sure your toaster is better.

Bethesda games work fine:
Skyrim (and the older elder scrolls)
Fallout new Vegas and 3
Modding is possible but can sometimes crash

The final fantasy series up till 10 iirc (not the remakes/remasters)
Final Fantasy 14 the MMORPG suggestion.
Trails series. Looks daunting, but it's great and runs well
Va-11 Hall-A. One of my personal favourite VNs.
Dark Souls 1 (barely. I can't input multiple times at once or it'll crash)

And if you're into eroges, I was able to run every single Alicesoft game smoothly. Dohna Dohna, Evenicle 1&2, all of Rance. Illusion is always too much though.

From my experience with my toaster, every VN and most jrpgs runs fine so you'll have a good time and a lot of options to choose from if you're into playing those games.

Edit: forgot to mention Cryptmaster a really fun dungeon crawler which uses typing as a mechanic

This is the most important part, you should play all Alicesoft games (even if we all know which are the best).
