Personally I don't much care about legalities of reading manga, so I used to use sites such as KissManga for years. That was until their website became more trouble than it was worth to use, then I moved to MD. I selected MD because they actually gave a shit about scanlator groups and tried to work with them. But now that a lot of (english) series has been pulled from MD for one reason or another, I just might find a site that doesn't care about scanlator groups at all, nor legalities.

And why is this? Because discovering interesting manga, reading said manga, being notified of new chapters, keeping track of read/unread chapters is way too much of a hassle unless you use sites such as KissManga or MD. I've got more than a hundred manga on my follows list. It was a huge hassle to even more from KissManga to MD with that many series to somehow keep track of. If scanlator groups think people like me are willing to go to their site, plus another 19 other group sites to read those 100+ manga, they're full of shit.

I honestly don't even know why so many groups have pulled their series, but I assume some drama has befallen MD. I don't give a shit though. I am not a community member who gives back, I only take, I realize and accept that. And I believe most of the manga-reading community are people like me. Only very small percentage of us are willing and capable of taking part in translating manga, and thus giving back to the community.

So yeah, as far as I am concerned, one of these three happens:
- I will keep using MD despite the series that have been pulled so far.
- I will move to another site, a site that might not respect scanlator groups at all.
- I will stop reading manga.

Visiting scanlator groups' own sites is not in the picture at all. It is my belief that unless MD and scanlator groups improve their relations quickly, it is the scanlator groups that suffer most.

Oh well.

So I responded to this around the time this post was first written and since then I've decided to see if the accusations of these scanlators sites having awful readers was true. I can safely say that even if hatigarm had been translating literally every manga I care about I still couldn't have made the switch to reading on their abysmally awful reader. They actually downsize and squish all the pages to fit more ad space around the image. I can safely agree with the MD staff at this point that some of the group's that left did so because nobody wouldneven consider using their site otherwise and that was cutting their profits. Champion scans on the other hand has a fine reader and reasonable number of advertisements but I would still recommend an ad blocker since we all know what kind of malware gets put in the ads of shady quasi piracy sites.

Our reader is probably the best reader out there, objectively speaking. No other reader, aggregator or official, can compete.

At least this is the impression I get from all the feedback.

It's better than you think. At the end I will post again about crowd psychology, group tendencies and bias. I didn't take college courses, but have friends who did. And I have a big interest in the subjects.
Then we can lock this sucker.

Suffice it to say that except for one particular scanlator - not a group, but an actual individual person - I generally come down on the side of MD concerning that miserable shitstorm and prefer to use their website. To the point where I will only go to one of the scanlation websites if the series I want can be found nowhere else. And if that is required, I will explicitly use a variety of tools and techniques to disable elements of their websites and ensure they get absolutely nothing from me; no ad revenue, no traffic count, nothing.

I'm aware that this is vindictive and quite frankly counter to my usual principle of giving scanlators fair credit / traffic for their work. But as many others will tell you, it is an incredible pain in the ass to keep track of 20+ groups for all the stuff I like to read, and my contempt for their recent activities has come to outweigh my desire to do the necessary legwork to enforce that principle.

You're talking about tribalism or what not. There already is a thread floating around the forums about this subject.

1st one i guess. Can't deny that. Well i only go for my favorite one, even if I see a manga that I currently reading and have more chapters I don't read it there.

I prefer waiting. I have something else to be organised other than chapters. Having so many sites will be annoying.

Anyway mostly I buy the books but only read an translated version by people. Idk I like to collect unopened books.

PS:
Edited; well other than that I prefer to read in English not my own country language, for learning purposes. That's the second reason I didn't read the book I buy.
I didn't really care if the TL English is bad because in RL if people understand what you said then what else do you want?

I have no idea who left, who stayed, or which series are affected.

There is a list. I think it's back in the announcements section.

@sterven
A poll can be worded to mean anything, mean nothing. I deliberately worded for black/white/grey. There are polar opposites and a neutral. How badly polls can be badly worded, you don't have to go back in history. Somebody according to all of the polling with initials of HRC was a shoe-in. All they had to do was show-up. They believed the polls they took. Instead DJT was the next. O' the backpedaling that occurred, let's just say hilarity ensued.

At the end I will post my final thoughts on the results. you might agree.
I would have liked more votes to occur but the %'s are good enough to analyze.

I'm confused are we talking about the same thing here because this is to what I was referring to
At the end I will post again about crowd psychology, group tendencies and bias.
and what I am assuming is that you thought I meant your question (a.k.a the poll) if you would be so kind
as to clarify this so I can stop feeling stupid.

Also i'm looking forward to your interpretation of the results.

Don't feel stupid. In two days I will opine on the third class, what I called wishy/washy. And why this was a yes/no poll from the start.

The only polls that mean a thing are YES/NO types.
All the other type questions "Rate on a scale", "How do you feel" and opinion. Are just questionnaires.

Reaction polls are effective. Hand everyone a dial and tell them to dial up or down based on what they watch and hear.
Politicians use them to evaluate speeches. Unfortunately they always pick the wrong crowd or say the wrong things.
Elect me and I will give free health care for all. Hell-ya, I would vote for you, until I see the payment bill paid out of my
next work check. Not so free, and I don't get what I paid for and somebody gets it without paying anything.
I am ranting damn it.
/rant off

Stay tuned answer in two days. I better have a good answer or I will piss off a lot of people.

this feels like a sitcom when some loud hyperactive hippie midget tries to get a group of people to storm out with him in protest of something and when he runs out they just stand there thinking "ah, nice, finally some peace and quiet" [insert laughtrack]. md going legit, it wouldnt be bad in my eyes assuming sufficient interesting content, reasonable fees, consistent quality releases(not like in kenja no mago where names changes every chapter by the same group) etc.. im good with paying as long as im not paying for halfassed stuff and ill go to some other less legit host for the rest, which these panties-in-a-twist groups already have me doing more frequently

Priority 1 is RSS feed or something similar so that I dont have to manually go to each page to check on the stories that interest me, if they're going to leave they should at least manage that. Priority 2 is avoiding garbage like Discord, never a good sign for any community. Those things in mind, the moment someone picks up Peerless Dad again I'm dropping jaiminis box and their garbage website.
I get these qualities from MangaDex as well as other useful and enjoyable features like the dark theme. I don't fault a group for wanting to get more views or whatever but if they cannot provide what I consider to be basic ease of use features like an RSS feed then or some easy way to keep track of the stuff you care about then I have no desire to use their site. Champion at least has an RSS feed.

OK, I am a little late posting this. Fourth of July and things happening to me. So let's get started.

I am not an expert on psychology, but "I did sleep at a holiday inn express". Sorry inside joke (USA), and maybe not all of the USA.
Google: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=i+did+sleep+at+a+holiday+inn+express to get my drift.

Whats the best way to get a long sousing started but with a video. I only ask for 4:30 minutes of time. The video is from High School Of The Dead (HOTD). Surprisingly it's the best explanation of the subject Group Normalcy Basis. Please watch til 6:00 https://youtu.be/scSTMhyY3xg?t=150 Sorry for the subtitles.

For everybody who voted: Yes or No. You over came your bias or came to a quick decision. I voted wishy/washy, not because I was. I wanted to follow the vote and you can not follow without voting. So for all the wishy/washy this comment is for you.
If you were following this thread, you probably read I said this was a yes/no poll all along. And if you insist you are not a yes/no person but wishy/washy. I am not concerned you will die first when SHTF. Yes survival instincts play within this poll. It's fight or flight. The old joke is "How fast you have to be to outrun a bear?" ... "Faster than you."
Moving on. Before you jump up and down screaming it's about "Tribalism". YES YOU ARE RIGHT! But more basic than that it's Group Normalcy Basis. If you watched the video, thank-you I don't want to or am I willing to go facts of that subject. It will become TL;DR.

So let's look at the numbers. About 2/3'rds said no. With remaining votes about 50/50 in the other two categories. This very much the average in yes/no polls, unless you have a very polarizing subject. So how strong is the "Basis". 80% of the wishy/washy will go with the majority decision. This is based on the 80-20 rule. The 80-20 rule can define just about anything in life. 80% of a companies profit is developed by 20% of the employees. 80% of a computer programs complexity is caused by 20% of the features. It goes on and on. So based on that 80% of the remaining 20% will vote YES eventually. That leaves 4%. Sorry guy's your dead remember SHTF.

I will leave this thought in closing. I am not kidding about dead and SHTF. There is only one thing worst than Group Normalcy Basis. Combine it the "Crowd bias". Group Normalcy Basis, describes one persons decision to be part of the group. Crowd bias is a sinister form of Group Normalcy Basis. It's how the crowd will act in a large group or meeting. Example: If I was giving speech in front of 200 people. If I was to have a heart attack and keel over. Possible only 1 person might rush to the front and take action in the first minute to minute and a half. When seconds count minutes are killers.

Thank-you for reading my late comment. You may have time to comment on my comment. Because I am asking @holo to lock the thread now. My reasoning being. If the thread is left open. Somebody may make a rude comment about decisions made. By either management or users. Holo it's your decision if you want to lock or not.

Thanks to all who participated. I may edit this bugger if it don't look right.

Did you really make a poll just to give an incredibly condescending report that pretends to have a basis in psychology about bias on the same forum where the people who disagree are likely to have left?
Normally I don't even post but I like reading forums just to know what's going on in a community.
This felt like such a huge waste of time reading that I felt the need to post and let you read my own few sentences of a waste of time.
