Most programming will be outsourced. Only start programming as a hobby, terrible career choice

Yes, but I learned it for, uh, unscrupulous reasons.

Don’t get into the field, it’s beyond hyper competitive and what few jobs there are will soon be lost.

It’s basically what @hornyturtle said.

It’s an atrocious field to get into because the window of opportunity passed long before the startup/dotcom2.0 bubble popped.

You aren’t going to make money, you’ll be fighting for table scraps with everyone else who stupidly went in believing there was money to be found, and your job will eventually be outsourced to China or India.

If you do learn it, only do it for freelancing/side jobbery/hobbyist nonsense.

Having a decent grasp of programming can be incredibly useful to have but yeah it being your career choice is a bad idea. Most people know it for either slightly illegal reasons or for fun.

Yes

As for getting into the field, I'm currently earning more with an intern salary than any other job I've ever had. Just live in a better country lol.

Within almost a week, more than 50% answered yes. Honestly surprised.

And I'm not learning programming to be a professional.

Competition is tough too and not being cut above the rest is just, not getting a job seems like a recipe for depression.

I wanted to be a game designer back in high school senior year. Took a C++ class in college. Had to drop because I didn't have enough intelligence to make the cut. Same for Calculus as well. Still curse my lack of talents until this day.

No.
When I was a kid I wanted to be a programmer but immediately gave up after learning I had to be good at math to do it.
