Fun fact: Back in the old days, large fictional narratives were published episodically (example: 1 chapter a week or month) in journals/magazines/newspapers. People had to use money to buy and read the story chapter by chapter. After the story's last chapter is published in that way, it's republished as a book.

Similarly, most Japanese manga is also published chapter by chapter in magazines then republished into volumes.

I think webtoon platforms are just following that concept because it's easy to do and profit off of (for both platform and creators) with the flexible digital media of webcomics.

I definitely agree with you that Tappytoon should do a subscription based kind of pay to read their webtoons. I read almost all their webtoons and it makes me cry to spend so much (but I can't help it, I've got an addiction...)
But out of the top three webtoon platforms I spend money on, Tappytoon's cost per episode is cheaper than the others.

Approximate Cost per Webtoon Episode:
Tappytoon $0.38
Lezhin $0.83
WEBTOON $0.50
(WEBTOON is largely free but some older WEBTOON comics cost to read, plus Fast Pass)

I'm too poor, too many expenses taking care of my parents and myself, got to be extra frugal and small nickle'n'dime charges add up real quick so got to avoid them.

Probably the only monetization systems I'd go for would be...
A sort of bulk-subscription model would be best, like selecting X number of comics. Example, 1-3 = $, 4-10 =$$, 10+ = $$$... That'd be where I'd be willing to spend. Instead I see far too much sneaky slowly boil the frog monetization that I often don't even look into, I just abstain entirely...

@Subject003 agree, for 10$ you can only read about 30 chapter which is way too little for manhwa which is very filler . i save money for western comic anyway
