Not that I'm a really loyal "customer" buit the week their 1st chapter came out I had really bad experiences with bad quality translations in other series, and did not want to risk it in this one.

Afaik, there weren’t any plans on what series to continue or drop. Only after returning has there been decisions for what to stick with and prioritize.

I volunteered to do proofread for one project. First chapter went fine; second chapter, a bit of a bind; third chapter, all hell broke loose irl; now fourth chapter is still not touched to this day -- lucky for me that translator is also busy with other things

I thought so too, but I think a filter like that would just be an incentive to snipe more chapters. Not only will snipers get more viewers by putting out their chapter first, they'll even hide the original team's translation behind the filter on top of that.

That idea needs to be worked on to prevent unintended consequences like that from happening.

I am seeing similar happen with Serei Tachi, but i believe picking the latest chapters while working in the other behind at the side would be wiser, almost no one will pick late chapters over new ones.
In a scanlation point of view trying to keep an user base it's a poor choice. This one is luck that they are only 4 chapters behind, Serei Tachi there is like 50 chapters behind, few people stop to even read the chapter.
