Well, you weren't perfectly on the nose, but generally yes that's how it goes.
Considering that you've read up to the remarriage, you're probably aware that Rashta gets pregnant. The thing that was revealed later is that it's not that she got pregnant with Soveishu. Rather, it is quite likely she was already pregnant when Soveishu found her. They didn't know that though.

It's unclear if Soveishu or Navier were ever infertile, but Navier does get pregnant after going over to the Western Empire. Her child was conceived approximately 2+months after she went to the Western Empire so there's no concern that she was pregnant from anyone other than Heinley.

The reason it's unclear if Navier was infertile or not is because the Western Kingdom's royal couple bed is magical. Unlike the Eastern Empire where the Emperor and Empress live in separate palaces, the Western Empire has the King and Queen share a palace/castle. In the Western Empire, the Emperor and Empress' bedrooms are separated by a lovely bedroom they can access from their own rooms for them to enjoy each other's company regularly if they desire to. Navier and Heinley often sleep in that shared room.

As for why it's unclear about whether Soveishu or Navier were even infertile from the start... Well, they lived in separate palaces and did dinner twice a week. Dinner did not guarantee anything more than dinner and even for normal fertile couples of their age, it can take up to a year of constantly trying to get pregnant. Rather, if you're under the age of 35, you shouldn't even be all that worried that you're infertile unless it's been over a year of trying every other day or maybe a little less than that and only then do they advise you to just check at that point rather than saying it means you're infertile.

So separate palaces, trying maybe once or twice a week at best without taking into account a woman's cycle for those dinners, and plenty of work stress as well were the circumstances surrounding their attempts to have children. (High stress levels can mess with ovulation and temporarily make it harder to get pregnant and I suspect that Navier's workload wasn't any lighter or easier especially when she first started out). If they were trying every other day or so, it might be different, but it appears they were trying twice a week at most.

So it could be that Navier was infertile and was healed by the bed and Soveishu was fertile. It could be that Navier and Soveishu were both infertile but Navier was healed by the bed. It could be that Navier was fertile and Soveishu was not. Or it could be that both were actually fertile this entire time.

Regardless, Navier had a child with Heinley and Soveishu was shocked to hear it. He started to wonder if maybe it was never Navier who was infertile. As such, he couldn't help but wonder if Rashta's child was his at all (it's quite likely that she (Gloriem, daughter of Rashta) was not Soveishu's child).

@Trezcast you're welcome

@Atrius I think the mire comment is pretty interesting because that is something a character actually said to Rashta in the novel. It's pretty close to an actual line in the novel.

I agree with you in general. I'm not sure if it's an intention thing where she's dragging people down and aware that she's doing so or not though. Otherwise, I generally agree with your observations. She's cunning in some ways, intelligent, and learns quickly, but she's not in her element here and isn't fully aware of it. That is in part because she has the protection of a really big fish now (Soveishu) and he's shielding her from the depths.

She was a tiny fish fry in a small pond who was able to grow and get ahead there, but she's now a relatively tiny fish in very deep waters and she isn't aware of the depths of these waters or how much the rules have changed here.

I have mixed feelings on the whole "full advantage" part and on her methods as well. After thinking about it for some time, this really might be her best chance to steal power away from the Empress.

(I ended up writing a slightly long analysis so I decided to cut it down and shove it into spoiler tags.)
---

She is currently the biggest upset that's happened in the palace. Navier has deep roots due to her training, the trust she's built with officials, the time she's spent with Soveishu, and her family backing, but with the advent of Rashta and Soveishu shaking things up for her, this is probably the weakest time for Navier. Opportunities like this don't come easily.

With Navier being a very competent Empress, once she got re-entrenched and adjusted to this massive change, it would be hard to shake her again. Right now while Rashta is still fresh and exotic is the best time for her to use Soveishu to shake Navier up and create new norms and a path to power.

The thing is, what makes her appealing to Soveishu isn't exactly conducive to grabbing the power she wants. Navier is the elegant and mature beauty, competent and composed. What Rashta has going for her is her innocent and naive beauty, the way she seems so delicate and timid with no apparent malice and how she appears easy to please for Soveishu. She also offers Soveishu tons of praise and admiration. She seems child-like and more like she needs protection. This would make it harder for her to gain direct and overt political power.

For social power, her position as Soveishu's lover is her source of power. She doesn't have a noble upbringing and is a stranger with bad rumors around her in noble social circles. For political power, she'd have to go through Soveishu for that, for wealth... she doesn't have any currently. So she has to go through Navier or Soveishu for money. I think no matter what she does, she would be unable to have the strongest position in the palace.

Rather, at this point, what she needs to do is regularly make the rift between Navier and Soveishu apparent and ensure Soveishu keeps his eyes and attention on her while making Navier look worse in his eyes. I suppose that's exactly what she's doing though at this point in time.

---

TL;DR: Seems this was likely to be one of Rashta's best opportunities to gain power. At least up till this point in time, she actually is playing it pretty smart (assuming I'm remembering right where we are in this story) despite it being annoying as hell for readers sympathetic to Navier.

Okay, yeah. At this rate slave-girl's villainy is going to be just a product of her environment. I still wouldn't be sure if we hadn't heard her thoughts directly, but I'm really thinking she's actually been (at least mostly) genuine about her behavior towards the empress so far. Pretty sure she has been playing the emperor to get his favor, but I don't see anything particularly villainous about that. The emperor's the one who's a dipshit for letting his feelings get in the way of his political sense.
I'm assuming this stuff based solely on the comic, though. I'm betting her character's been given more detail at this point in the novel and she could be more scheming than I give her credit. I can at least say for sure that she was fine with just being a concubine.

No, they're mine though. Please hand Mr. Deadface over.

Also, tbh the Rift Duke's comment about the situation didn't seem mocking. Like at worst they seemed like they were trying to provoke the Empress to do something, like, idk, a political alliance? At best it just sorta sounded like he was pitying her in a 'damn that fuckin sucks' manner, which now that i think about it, would definitely feel like getting mocked to Navier.

Wtf dude? Can't you trust her anymore? Judging every little thing she does and who she interacts with. This dud of an emperor must be immediately disposed of!
