Removing updates for unavailable releases

If a group removes their releases from Mangadex, the home page/follows tab should not advertise that the chapter has been released by that group, or released at all.

For example, I'm seeing bulk releases on my Follows tab for A Returner's Magic Should Be Special by LeviatanScans from 10 days ago, but when I click on the series page I see that they're unavailable. Looking at their group page, it looks like they make regular dumps to show that the chapters have been scanlated, they're just not available on mangadex.

I disagree I find this feature helpful as it helps me keep track of series that are not being hosted on MD vice having to jump back and forth between sites to look for updates.

Wouldn't keeping track of releases from scanlators outside of Mangadex be better on an archive site like mangaupdates?

Does having the ability to keep track of your follows regardless of where they are hosted on this site hinder you in any way? I don't think so, so why should we get rid of something that only brings merits and no demerits?

I have to agree with that. This isn't an information site like Mangaupdates, but a manga reader. Any updates on other sites are irrelevant for the purposes of this site. When something I follow gets updated here, I also want to read it here.

And as far as I understand, that group is actually one of those that pulled out of MangaDex. Yet, they still makes pseudo-updates here, wanting to "profit" of this site? Quite a dick move, really.

@sterven That is literally what archive sites like MangaUpdates are for. If you see an update on an aggregator/hosting site like MangaDex, then it's expected that the chapter would be on MangaDex. Yes, it is a hindrance to see the chapter release on the home page, only to click on the chapter and be met with "X this chapter is unavailable."

Edit: added ref to sterven

Wait, is this happening even when "show unavailable chapters" is turned off?

Yeah, if you have your settings set to "Unavailable chapters: Hide," you can still see the updates for unavailable chapters in your Follows tab. Clicking on the series link will hide the unavailable chapters, but clicking on the chapter link from the homepage leads to "X this chapter is unavailable."

Yes and? Does this mean MD can't have it too?

Not really there's a bunch of series on this site with no chapters due to various reasons. Going by your logic if I see a link to a series directing me to MD it must have chapters right?

Not once have I seen a link with an unavailable chapter appear on my homepage. The follows tab sure but then again it is clearly blank with no information other than the chapter number.
If that's your main gripe with the feature then I don't know what to tell you man. It takes one simple glance at the link to realise that the chapter isn't being hosted on the site.

I could be wrong but I do remember reading somewhere that it was MD who implemented this feature to appease some of the crowd that was complaining about having to jump to different sites just to find an update (like me) during all the drama caused by the exodus a couple of months ago.

If your "show unavailable chapters" setting is off, they should not appear, so this looks like an oversight on my part.

However the reason this feature exists is that the staff upload unavailable chapters for archiving purposes. When the group goes inactive, we don't have to upload hundreds of chapters but only need to toggle the unavailable chapters to show. Also it allows you to track chapters that you may have read elsewhere.
