Best moment of the chapter was when she jumped on him from behind to stop him from leaving.

Everything after that (last 10 pages) was so dumb though.

Like... sure, it was incredibly dumb of her to not deny the cheating; hell, let alone move away, he could have offed himself. And she was arrogant back then, sure. She's the one mostly at fault. This revenge prank was obviously mean but he immediately cleared it up with her.

But if they know they both like each other so much in the present, why is this guy being a needlessly edgy contrarian and forcing her to chase after him like some wimpy Heisei era harem MC who's afraid of women? What is the purpose??
Five years wallowing in anger and thirsting for vengeance only to realize how pointless it was broke him a bit. Now he can't trust either her or himself.

I agree that this is the psychological explanation for his behavior. (That said, I feel like your characterization of his emotional state is more intricate than what the author's actual narrative presented.)

I probably should have clarified I'm blaming the author, not the characters. The author could have chosen to just let the oneshot conclude their romance in a proper and satisfying way, or even just a bittersweet way like having her accept that he'd moved on. Instead, the author opted to deliver a tired harem cliche of a male MC who has a random personal obstacle (it could be past trauma, it could be he lives a life of danger, literally doesn't matter from a narrative perspective) to having a relationship with a girl, and a girl who boldly declares she'll keep pursuing him.

It's likely that this is one of those situations where, if it does well enough, it will get serialized, so it's left open-ended in a way that can be continued after adapting to a serialized format.

Cute, cute. So, how will MC deal with FMC next time he sees her interacting with another man? Stab her or will suffocate her? Like yes, FMC is quite a shitty person and has done some fucked up shit, but MC literary was a scary type of simp, and from the foundation of the story (revenge plot) we can see that MC still stays the same.

PS: This story is especially scary for me because I watched a few hours of content from a simp about his favorite streamer. And with each part, it was becoming scarier and scarier. By the end, I was actually expecting him to make a video from outside of her house. This story is important because MC in this manga reminds me of him quite a lot, from "kindness" to "revenge"(tbf revenge here is a little more justifiable).

Holy moly this is wild, and unexpectedly good to read.
But i think the guy's reaction make more sense than Hope You're Happy Lemon, where the guy and the ex reunited and act friendly as if nothing happened (romcom manga duh..) even when they broke-up because the ex told him she cheated with a multiple guys.
I still think their relationship won't worked out even if the girl told the truth back then, both were still young and shitty people and they keep hurting each other. Sometimes breakup is needed for peoples to realize their mistake and improve themself to be a better people.
Except the difference between these two are

Lemon and Mc are both mostly good people, the story goes out of the way to show just how well liked both of them are.

Lemon and Mc broke up due to lemons very low self esteem (she thought she wasn’t worthy of Mc) and she knew Mc wouldn’t leave her with just that so in her brilliant mind she thought to lie about cheating and to put the nail in the coffin she added 3 more counts.

For a apparently smart girl her brilliant idea was she will go and better herself, come back into Mc’s life, get him to love her again, and then tell him her cheating was a lie….

She was incredibly selfish and while I like the story, the way they kinda overlooked how much lemon hurt Mc always rubbed me the wrong way.

Hmm... Communication problem. Both Wakamizu and Hakuto had fault in this.
Also till the end i thought i was being bamboozled like Wakamizu would say yeah i cheated haha i trapped you again i knew all along or she would turn full yandere (look at those eyes o my) after learning he is Hakuto whom she is looking for. But none of this happened so in a way i was indeed bamboozled ha...
Instead i felt sad for both of them and somehow was most on Wakamizus side. And was saying oh no not the breakup type sadness again but it didnt go that way and was pretty good ending.
...
But i really thought it would be revenge ntr type like the girl was at fault and boy will dump her in the worst possible way but nah. It turned into something really wholesome and beautiful in the end.
.
Came here to hehe haha revenge mode but left with a smile and wholesomeness.
Good Wholesome Read...

surprised the heroine didnt go full yandere, considering the author is famous for his/her yandere characters

Ideally if you want to break up, you shouldn't act like a tsundere, that's going to give anyone the wrong impression.

The girl was an idiot teenage who had her ego up in the air so when she was confronted over a misunderstanding on the boys part she got mad (kinda understandable since he wasn't asking he was acussing her of cheating) so she left him for a bit because she was really mad instead of actually trying to have a talk, and once she cooled her head it was too late because he had already gone away (literally and metaphorically since he cut all contact with her).

The boy was a stupid teenage boy who had really low self-esteem so watching her gf get out of the hotel with someone else made him go crazy with doubt (understandable since it is a situation to start doubting someone), he overreacted and her response wasn't the best to calm him so he went away and cut contact with her, his grudge came back when he saw her again, so he tried to get revenge to settle those feelings only to understand all was a misunderstanding and he was doing something stupid for something even more stupid so he felt conflicted because hatred doesn't go away just like that but he also understood this wasn't worth it.

Some say the ending wasn't good but if she is willing to try and repair the relationship well no one can go against that, and he doesn't hate her his head is just a mess for all that happened just because a misunderstanding they both contributed to happen.

I understand the MC's feelings, honestly I am an introvert with low self-esteem but I keep acting extroverted and confident in public because i know nobody's care about men's feeling, it's tiring. So if i confronted my "girlfriend" and she nonchalantly said this i will prepare my escape with zero chance of reconciliation. My advice for you guys, if you want to confront your cheating partner, please gather evidence first, prepare your escape route, choose neutral and safe place for confrontation, and record your conversation to avoid false accusations
