We can already deduce the dude didn't have an emotionally easy life after the granny died. Such circumstances would either make him a cold person or a more sympathetic person. He's obviously the latter. He just couldn't say no when Sakuya was crying and Hinata was pushing him as well. Once he had made the promise, he had no choice but to honour it, like a man. Considering Hinata and Sakuya's origin, it's not impossible to imagine the dude might feel some kind of inexplicable connection to those two, making him agree more readily.
