Because it's easier for them to just try and jump things that are popular than it is to figure out what popular stuff hasn't been touched in 3-6 months and needs some love. And unfortunately the rise of MTL and AI editing tools means that scanlation is low-effort enough now that you don't have to be dedicated and motivated enough to want to do that research.
