I remember reading a comment in an earlier chapter saying this rivalry would not last long or even that there wouldn't have been any... am I mistaking it with another comic? Because I don't like this arc at all and I can't wait for it to end.
Same, I can't say I'm a fan of how things were done with Nikaido. It's a night and day difference between what I remember reading, I guess things with her were rewritten for the light novel?

Or maybe I just didn't get far enough in the web novel but I definitely don't remember there being any sort of rivalry like this.

A love triangle is formed 👀

To be fair if you're not a straight up simp you can't love someone just because they're perfect (Good at everything, really good looking Etc.) and also mangas love to slowburn everything
True enough, but the thing is that he does like her back. He has absolutely no excuse to not date her, he's just a spineless bastard who cares more about appearances than anything

Who tf is this nikaido girl??? He doesn't want to publicly date his future wife because he'd get too much attention, but he's fine with accepting this new extremely popular girl's homemade lunch? Now he decides to just ignore the attention????

I can only say "Fock off" to TL team (thank for the work tho) Nikaido is best gUrl. Thanks to degenerate author he made her to not confess until now when she has a rival. FMC literally throwing her on MC and pushing him around, I hate that, considering and comparing polite and cute Tomboy Nikaido and annoying FMC (forgot her name), childhood friend is always the best option

..who the heck would put sugar in fried eggs?

I wanna point out two things:
1. Broth? in eggs???????????
2. she calmly demanded to be called by her first name? insert dumbledor-asked-calmly.gif

Tamagoyaki (rolled fried eggs) usually have sugar and dashi added. Dashi is a stock made from either konbu (a kind of seaweed) or bonito (shredded dried skipjack tuna). Tamnagoyaki is usually fried in a rectangular pan and cooked in a series of rolled layers that are rolled. Just google "tamagoyaki recipe" if you want to know more.

Man, Nikaido is more annoying now. Someone who reads the novel, please tell me she will get rejected sooner.

I know its a cultural thing, but man i can never get past how silly the whole, "use my first name" thing is
It's worth spending a day or two reading up on the whole tsumis surrounding honorifics, though, because those little subtleties are often key to the entire story. Like, with Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha, for example, you can read through the earliest chapters and think the MC is just the worst until you realize the FMC is addressing him with his given name sans honorific AND she freaks out when he drops back to using a super-formal mode of address for her.

Secrets are overrated. They keep distance between couples.

Honestly, I kinda forgot who the side characters were. Do they matter?

It's an easy choice, really. Just pick the girlfriend, unless you want to get away from her.

Although in retrospect, not choosing the GF so you could see her pout would be worth it.

Why do manga characters react so much more strongly to being called their first name than most people react at almost anything at all? I can't even imagine I'd react to anything that strongly this side of literally being shot.

I'm pretty sure the artist can draw a more angelic smile than the last one. Didn't get any feeling from it. Doesn't hold a candle to Chihara in the latest character.

..who the heck would put sugar in fried eggs?
Japanese cooking has sugar in everything. Well, maybe not, but it's a common "spice" they use. I've heard their food is as sweet as their sweets aren't.

To be fair if you're not a straight up simp you can't love someone just because they're perfect (Good at everything, really good looking Etc.) and also mangas love to slowburn everything
You might be attracted to perfection, but you fall in love with the flaws.

because those little subtleties are often key to the entire story.
This is not subtle. This is sledgehammer by someone on steroids.

I swear everyone complaining about Nikaido has lost track of what's actually happened in the story.

Kaede showed up at Yuya's house THREE DAYS AGO. Before that they've never so much as spoken to each other. The day after that was a holiday, so from the perspective of everyone at school including Nikaido this whole relationship popped up out of nowhere YESTERDAY. Nikaido has been taking her time a bit with her crush on Yuya, but it's not like they're childhood friends (as far as we know at least), they only met at the beginning of the school year. But that's still a lot longer than the THREE DAYS Yuya has gotten to know Kaede, so it shouldn't really come as a surprise if his friendship with Nikaido still comes out looking stronger than his three-day-old relationship with Kaede.

And Nikaido has definitely been dropping hints if she's calling Yuya by his first name, he's just your typical dense anime MC. I'll cut him a little bit of slack this time, because Nikaido has strong "one of the guys" energy.

It's too early for rivalry. They spent 10 chapters establishing their situation, but they have barely explored the intricacies of Yuya and Kaede and their dynamic together.

Plus this rivalry is boring. He has barely found them desirable beside their general attractiveness. What's the point of the rivalry if he doesn't remotely like either character in that way? This chapter doesn't mean much with the original premise. It could have been done in any romcom where the characters aren't bound by some sketchy contract as they are here.

Until the Gal and I Become a Married Couple is the exact same premise but carries it out better.

The worst trope is the friend who likes MC but keeps teasing him instead of confessing. Man if you like him from the start you shouldve confess now you have powerful rival. But NGL I like the Nikaido's design cause I like Tomboys.

Wow. I had stopped reading after chapter 8 and just skipped ahead to here to see how it's going.

It turned into a harem. I already dropped this shit because I thought it couldn't disappoint me any further, and yet here I am, wrong.

What the fuck is the point of this? I'm out.

what's yuya's problem lol... he literally got the best gf in all of japan. what's the issue with going out with her? altho i can see that nikaido has a crush on yuya, but yuya doesn't show anything like that.
Because nearly every rom-com protagonist have issued a mandatory castration in the beginning and testosterone draining every 2-3 issues. Otherwise, the manga would not be as long-running as some are (and wouldn't bring the monnies).

I think I might see what Nikaido's character motivation is. She definitely has feelings for the MC to some degree, but then in swoops the most high-spec of rivals to snatch him away. And really, why would someone of Hitotsuba's stature want to be with someone who is average/ordinary by comparison? Maybe she's stringing him along, following some wild whim, only to eventually dump him when the luster wears off and she gets bored.

The MC may also feel the same way to some extent, especially when taking into consideration that their relationship begins with him at his lowest, abandoned by his family, and the two would-be lovers/future spouses effectively being strangers. Seriously, out of all the fish in her sizeable pond, why the hell would the most admired, sought-after, and incredibly affluent JK in Japan fall for and want to live with him right out of the gate?! What's more, even if she is being one-hundred percent sincere, the beginning of the manga still portrayed their introduction as akin to a rich person buying a pet. Hell, I'm not a huge fan of arranged marriages, but I think even that would have been more dignified than what we got.

Finally, why would the MC prefer a lunch that reminds him of the parents that abandoned him? The answer, I think, is memories. The MC is recalling the simple, happy days of his childhood when his immediate family was still whole, and his days were filled with warmth, love, and his mother's homemade cooking. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and it wouldn't have been out of place even in a gag/rom-com manga like this for the MC to tear-up at that moment. The guy has been through something rather traumatic, which can be easy to forget with the tone and his seemingly stoic demeanor so far. To be honest, I kind of wish he had shed a few tears then and there. It could have served to make the girls realize that in their selfishness and jealousy, they are overlooking his suffering and feelings towards the whole situation (even if Nikaido and the rest of his classmates don't know the full story about him living with Hitotsuba).
