I get that they saved each other's lives, but right now she has very little in the way of ambition aside from staying with him in a human town and doing whatever he wants.

I dunno. She didn't seem to notice when the party she's supposedly leading added a member who clearly left Dion superfluous at his then-power levels. She should at least have found some way to keep him in a specialized and necessary role before everything went sideways to begin with.
