The MC was fine without being overpowered and now he gets a god pact as a starter kit, with the question of dragon treatment being given the easy answer of "treat them well, since you get magic powers if they like you" instead of, "while treating them like expendable tools works in theory, it is much better to treat them well, as they can deliver much better results."

It is unfortunate, but web novel authors are known to be unable to tackle these issues without a deus ex machina with invincible powers to justify the main character reaching his/her goal.
From getting rid of the story's gimmick (e.g. blind girl isekai) to sudden power up because of some bogus genetics (heh) this is what we have to deal with.

At this point he's definitely gained some fame but most importantly he's already accomplished the task of finding and bringing her back to town safely once so far. I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to let the dragon accompany him.

Maybe. The Japanese Text was クリス [kurisu] and the dictionary say it's Chris. Idk really.

Christ is written slightly differently.

Christ was my first assumption, yeah. Kind of a funny name to give to the dragon that dies and gets reborn, I gotta assume it's part of what the author was aiming for with the name.
