@Elmithian Sure. They still don't know what it means, tho. Just like when they call an MC a "beta cuck", misusing beta AND cuck.

Well, the word "simp" has also shifted in tone from being insulty to being said lightheartedly, the shift started shortly after the vtuber craze began.

Pretty sure there is a decent overlap between folk that read manga and those that consume that kind of entertainment. And atl in the vtuber side of it, the word simp has as much negative connotations as a nerd proudly proclaiming himself a nerd.

So I think you may be taking it overly negatively. The word has taken a radical shift in tone the past 2 years from being an insult about mindless beta male cucks into meaning folks that like supporting entertainers or person they like.

@Elmithian I mean, it may have shifted lately? But notice that I was talking about when it was STARTING to get used, around 7ish months ago. I honestly don't know how, or if, it was used before that, but at that point (when it became famous) it was with the whole "giving money to female streamers" stuff. So basically the simp was (is) the dude who "keeps throwing away stuff and money in the hopes of being noticed/getting sex, which he'll never get", more or less.
I get your point about the different uses, and it shifting to a joke. Like how you can say "dude, you like flowers? That' so gay" and it doesn't REALLY mean "gay". I just very much doubt it applies here now, and especially not 7 months ago.

Also, context is important. When you write "fucking simp", without anything else, IF you're joking or being sarcastic you're not transmitting it properly. And if you're using the word "seriously", with the "fucking" you're definitely insulting, and not saying "guy supporting the girl he likes". It's 100% "beta cuck" (which, again, is also wrong, in this case twice).

Sorry for the rant, but I'm a translator AND a language teacher (and amateur writer), and seeing literally everyfuckingone using words wrong triggers me more than it should 😂

Fair's fair. I have been writing for 15 years as a hobby/passion as well. Not language teacher though so I likely lack that irritating itch that comes from seeing improper usage of words... well, most of the time.

I did do translations of novels over to my native language for a time as well, but that was more assistant kind of thing and less me being the head of such projects.

And yeah, if you write just a single word it is excessively challenging for others to read your intent.

That's usually why I use emotes (not emojis) when I want to emphasise a certain tone/feel in my text (not in the storywriting kind of writing of course, just in general interaction over the net).

If they don't get married when they become of age, I'm losing my hope in humanity and I'll never trust these sweet moments between people. Humph Humph!!

Being born, raised and still living in a big metropolitan city... seeing this kind of activity makes me really envious tbh.
