@JustNatsuki Oh fuck, well let's hope this mangaka is not like those ones xD

The LN have few flashback scenes, like 3 - 4 in 5 books.

Wait, why the god wants the souls? I thought he disliked the cycle of life and death? or the undead only stays as long as they have attachments?

He deviated because of the tragedies in the cycle of life, but offers a fucked up deal to the heroes then lick his tongue when the time comes to reap their souls? Does that thing collect souls or eat them?

This manga is really good, the heroes characters are well crafted. That said i'm not understanding Stagnate angle here.

He want to make a stagnate world where no life and death is exist and all who life within it will be equal, well to put it simply he wants to conquer the world and makes everyone become undead and for that he need heroes to accomplish it by making them an undead, that's why he makes a deal with them.

I've really tried to like this manga, read it, read the comments, but it will not click with me. Why does everyone think this is so great? I just can't see it.
To me it feels boring and too well thought out. Too heavy and slow in the story telling and not really suitable as manga. As a LN it's all nice and dandy, but as a manga it just falls short.

Please somebody help me and let me see the light

@GurryCurryBurry I kind of see your point that a manga should be concise and fast-paced (esp what seems to be a monthly manga that doesn't get the benefit of quick updates to keep readers interested), but I also think the interest in the story is largely a matter of preference. The fact that the story is well thought out and kind of slow-paced is actually a plus for me (and I'm sure the same holds true for a lot of the people here). Traditional isekais have started to grow stale with their quick-paced and slightly wishy-washy planning. It's nice to see something that takes its time for once. Part of this might also be due to the fact that I've read things that take *way* longer to set up their plot. This is pretty well paced from my perspective actually.

Eh, author is trying really hard to cover all the critical bases and that's nice. There are definitely holes, but a narrative without holes is not a narrative at all. I'd give it an above average rating of 7.5/10.

@Tyizor Yes, just because there's one or two structural things different than other manga is what makes manga stand out these days. Nonbiri Nouka is praised because it presents a sandbox, Minecraft-like, hands-off approach that's structurally different than other manga. Re:Monster is that same narrative but appeals to the shounen audience.

@GurryCurryBurry I don't think it's Shawshank Redemption-level either, but it's entertainment and I like reading it. It's "old" storytelling that hails the roots of storytelling where motivations are clear and pacing is fit to the purpose of the story, not to the audience.

@ch7 ending
They promised to watch over the seal to the Death God, they are the only ones doing that. As the D[umb]eath God wants. Why the flying fuck is the brainless god talking about reaping them? Does he have some highly skilled undead in his pocket to watch over the seal? Or wasn't him mad at the demon whom was killing anything that cast a shadow...? Everything was going so nice, every explanation falling in place... If Mary and Blood said anything about leaving with the MC, I wouldn't have any problem with him showing up and demanding contractual obligations, but they NEVER EVER mentioned leaving. So, forced conflict is what I see.

The slow-paced narrative is only for volume one and the next one is fast-paced. As for why vol.1 is slow paced and well-though is for world building and to make MC background or 'identity', this is why I think the MC is more relatable than any other MC, many other manga especially isekai failed to create MC background. most of them have this kind of plot progression :
-reincarnated/summoned
-hailed as a hero
-fight for them + getting a harem
or where MC is the rebellious one and won't obey the one summoned them or the free roaming type, and many side characters are too predictable (the so-called typical) as well.
but this manga/ln is different not only the world building is better the characters are not your typical character and there is a reason for MC to fight. this is why I liked this manga/LN more than other

sorry for the rant especially bringing LN to the topic while discussing the manga. I just wanna justify why I like this manga
sorry for the bad English as well

I came across this manga while looking for more isekai trash to read, but seems to me that the isekai aspect of the story is completely inconsequential. Author probably only added it in there anyway since isekai stories are popular. I don't read the novels though, so I could be wrong. Regardless, this work has me looking forward to the next chapter. Art is quite decent but I've seen better. Art style kinda reminds me of Koe no Katachi (which I really appreciate). Pacing is a preference for most, but I like how the story is taking its time to establish the characters and the world. I feel like it's skimming over some details, but it tells you just enough to have some grasp of what the world is like. Overall, pretty enjoyable. Hoping for an epic adventure when Will finally embarks on his journey (or is this not that kind of story? lol) and some character development, too, please.

As an aside, I find babies having the awareness and mentality of an adult creepy. It reminds me of the end credits to Welcome to the NHK.

This is by no means bad, I'm always surprised when an Isekai manga gets me so invested.
