Yeah, I agree. With Chihiro dead, it would have been a fitting end for the zombie story. But like this? Cheap pull of heartstrings and the "twist" takes away all the emotion instead of hightening them.

Open ending I think, they’re not together but it seems that might happen in the future, naturally in a place we’ll never see it. Kinda disappointed on this ending, which happens rarely.

The ending is kinda disappointing the built-up for all of this was kinda wasted I was expecting something like them being together again kinda cliche ending him being alive. I feel unsatisfied with the ending. I'm salty af with this.

As for the final chapter (there's a bonus tho'), they had me till page 14, thought Chihiro literally gave Rea his heart...

Then mourning of Babu...

But when Darin start to talk about memory transfer and Rea actually eating Chihiro still beating heart...

Figured something was off, when everyone was fine having Rea around at the anniversary of waking ceremony...

But...

that was surprising tho'

Danchiro "paid" too little for what damage he did, his daughter committed suicide after all.
He should have confessed and spent time in jail, till his asspussy would prolapse.

It's a terrible shame Rea and Chihiro didn't end up together despite all this, sure the town didn't forget her rampage in Confused State, but there's no stopping them to move anywhere else in colder climate together till the end. Instead there's an open ending, without their relationship progressing nor ending...

As for the story, it was actually pretty good, basically about regrets and letting go because it might end terribly.
Think Yuzuna in her dying wish messed up more than both Chihiro and Mero gained, if Jogoro wouldn't revive her, they would be devastated by their mom death but her leaving them again and what they discovered in grandpa house left them traumatized... although Chihiro wouldn't meet Rea screaming at the well and nobody would discovered that Danichiro is a pedophile... big price for stopping a pedophile...

I'll give it 7/10 just because of shitty ending.
