The point is that an elementary school level education is better than none.

Where do you think Mitsuha is getting those books from? Japan.
What language do you think those people understand? NOT Japanese.
I know it's easy to forget Mitsuha got a universal translator skill along with her warp one. Except that very skill was mentioned again in this very chapter when she questioned the accuracy of the translation for "scientist".

So who's going to translate all those books, Mitsuha? She's got more important and more pressing stuff to deal with. Translating a couple of blueprint is nothing compared to translating an entire educational book, no matter what subject. And there are plenty of subjects to teach.

Even if the language problem is resolved, who's going to teach the kids how to read?
Their parents who don't know how to read because they never got an elementary school level education?
Mitsuha who, again, has more important and pressing matters?
A scholar who was hired specifically to teach the kids?

Next, most kids aren't going to read those books unless someone forces them to. That's why we still go to school even though we could summon any number of textbooks on any subject from the internet.
Again, they need a teacher who makes sure they're actually reading the books they're supposed to read.

Sometimes a book isn't entirely clear, or may be hard to understand. Who's going to explain what they mean?
So the teacher actually has to be knowledgeable enough to explain stuff.

And finally, there are plenty of relatively important subjects that Mitsuha's books can't teach. Language, history, and to a certain extent biology. Remember those dragons? Good luck finding any useful educational books about dragons here on Earth...

It starting to feel like the author is just trying to fill out a quota of people getting diss by the heroine per chapter, like there are other things to do to, but she mainly flaunting around things she acquired from Earth in this underdeveloped world

@Nolonar Except, maybe there are better people suited to those tasks than those represented by a dude who is okay with people getting robbed and raped, and maybe those tasks are less of an immediate priority than having enough finances and defenses for the territory to not get bankrupted, starved or pillaged.

no, it's not fucking obvious, a moving earth implies parallax which would be extremely difficult to measure without telescopy of considerable precision. the prevailing thought of the time was that the stars were much smaller and closer than they are now known to be, so the implied parallax should have been visible to the naked eye.

You're talking about priorities after suggesting she waste her time translating hundreds of books beyond elementary school level, to teach kids who've never even been to school yet, much less elementary level.

As if interviewing another 2 teachers before making a final decision was that much more time consuming... Do you really think she can't do anything else while waiting for that asshole to travel back and call for the next candidate?
Or maybe she has to standby while her listening devices collect evidence on the new guys?

@Nolonar Never said anything about translating, or even that the teaching should be specifically catered towards kids. All I said was that education is far from being the thing she needs to focus on since she's literally going to start running her own fief or whatever from zero. Not to mention, the teacher was never even offering to teach her people, just her and presumably some other important people to her. Commoners being taught en masse is far from anyone's mind right now.

Of course you didn't. I did. To which your answer was: "What's the point", while suggesting Mitsuha import Japanese books nobody can read unless she spends her precious time translating them.

If you're going to reply to someone, you should at least read what they write.

All I said was that education is far from being the thing she needs to focus on since she's literally going to start running her own fief or whatever from zero.
And nobody said she had to focus on education.

Since you obviously didn't read what you had replied to:
I would've sent this guy back too, but not without asking him to send another lecturer for the purpose of opening a school.

The whole point of hiring people is so you can delegate, so you can focus on more important matters.
Without a teacher, Mitsuha will either have to focus on education (which I doubt she will), or lose the potential of having a well-educated workforce in the future.
You can't just go "oh, now I need engineers" and have them. It takes time to train people. How are you going to train engineers, if all you have are adults who never learned to read or calculate? Starting education now gives you a ton of options later.

I know her goal is only to earn 80k gold coins, but plans fail. She'd do well to have a backup plan to fall back on, like keeping her domain as a reliable source of income.
In the short run, the education of children is pointless. If she reaches her goal, she won't need her domain anymore, thus the future of the children is irrelevant.
But in the long run, if her plan fails, having well-educated working adults is going to give her a tremendous advantage. It's an advantage she's forfeiting for lack of foresight.

Not to mention, the teacher was never even offering to teach her people, just her and presumably some other important people to her.
That's completely irrelevant. Read my original post again:

I would've sent this guy back too, but not without asking him to send another lecturer for the purpose of opening a school.
"For the purpose of opening a school."

Why should I care why that guy came? I clearly asked him to send a school teacher when he returns.

Commoners being taught en masse is far from anyone's mind right now.
And that's precisely why I said she handled this affair poorly.
I've already explained why. You only need to read.

Because that world is undeveloped, it's normal that their knowledge is lacking

It keeps saying the scientist wanted to hand her over to the bandits but I didn't see that happening, only that it was mentioned after she got off the carriage. Did I miss something or does she consider him going the path of least resistance, "bystander's rights" and assuming it's a real in this world, (despite that not being actual assurance) to be "handing her over?"

@Nolonar Yeah, I'm sure the scholarly faction that panders to the nobles opportunistically would be thrilled about teaching a bunch of illiterate commoners and totally wouldn't try to take advantage of her. I'm sure this person would also totally make for a loyal and trustworthy messenger.

Listen, if you're going to complain about people not reading your posts, you should try not to make them unreadable rants. You even tried to make it sound like education is even remotely profitable, even. What a silly billy.

Thanks. I suspected you were dumb. Now you've confirmed it.

PS: If my posts are unreadable rants, maybe don't reply to them?
You know, basic common sense.

It's stupid to think of it in a modern-day context rather than middle-ages.
Theory isn't practical for peons; what's useful is practical knowledge that makes labor cheaper, more money or the peasants more skillful. A middle-age astronomer isn't offering that. It'd throwing away money and wasting production time. And like he said, scholars at that time would prefer leeching off her than teaching peasants whom won't use that knowledge anyways.
Mitsuha is prioritizing.

It makes no difference what they want. Mitsuha could easily get what she needs from the many nobles she knows.
That doesn't mean she can't extend an offer to people she could make use of.
Those scholars have clearly more to gain from Mitsuha and her access to advanced technology, than she has to gain from them.

It's stupid to think of it in a modern-day context rather than middle-ages.
...
We're still talking about the manga, where a girl hired local craftsmen to install electrical equipment in her home (something only a qualified electrical engineer should ever do unless you're ready to see your house burn down), right?

The same girl also installed plenty more electrical equipment at some other people's home for a coming-of-age party, and both the hosts and the guests treated it as nothing more than "an amazing party".
And we're supposed to expect middle-age logic... why again?

@Nolonar You sure showed me there. It's fun seeing you make less and less sense with each post. It's kinda like watching a bee drown in syrup, except you know the bee did something to deserve it.

...Eh. I guess I've gotten tired of her whole schtick. I don't know that I'm going to keep reading this.
